After a great experience last year on North Tripyramid, a crew from GayOutdoors.org (GO) returned to fly the flag over South Twin in 2008. Carlos, Dave, Gary, Mark, Markus, Mike, Ram, Rich and Stacy carried up our trusty extending window washing pole and raised the flag just before noon.
It was cloudy/foggy at first but the Flags on the 48 Magic took hold and we ended up having a beautiful sunny day on the summit with a nice breeze. We spotted flags on Garfield, N Twin, Bond, W Bond, Lafayette and Lincoln. The N. Twin crew told us they spotted the flag on Galehead later in the day. Watching other flags flying around the Pemi showed us how powerful it can be when people unite for a common cause. We were glad to participate once again to honor those who lost their lives om September 11th and to celebrate the persevering American spirit.
We spent the time on the summit speaking to lots of friendly folks who posed beside the flag for pictures. Some folks told us they hiked that day just to see a flag on the summit. It was a nice walk back and the stream crossings along Little River were all manageable. Overall it was really a great day.
Thanks to everyone who organized and participated in FOT48! We’re definitely looking forward to next year…
