Our crew consisted of eight, 4 adults and 4 kids (two 9 year olds, one 8 year old, and an energetic lad of 4.) We met at the parking lot at 8:00 and were on the trail by 8:15. Most of us reached the summit by 11:45 (at least those of us carrying the flag and flag pole rig). We raised the flag promptly at noon.
Wendy brought the “eleventh essential”, a box of 6 dozen homemade chocolate chip cookies. She did mention that she didn’t want to bring them back down the mountain. Amanda, Betsy and Tim served as the welcoming committee, offering up the chocolate chip cookies and asking for a signature in our guestbook (thanks for all the great comments!)
We had a stream of visitors, with a special thanks to Len and the gang from Flume who came over from Flume to let us know that they could see our flag from that peak. A shout-out to the thru-hikers who took a little detour from the AT to visit. We had more than 30 sign our guestbook, although another 30 arrived shortly after the flag had come down and was packed up.
We hit the trail for the trek down – the cookies were all gone.
