Flags on the 48 Hike – Mount Tom
Sept 13th, 2014 – Sunrise 6:23 AM, Sunset 7:00 PM
Meet @ the AMC’s Macomber Family Information Center (Crawford Depot) off route 302 @8:45 AM.
We will leave the Depot and head towards the Avalon trail head (.1 miles) NLT 9:15 AM, take the Avalon trail (1.2 miles) to the AZ trail (1.0 miles) to the MT Tom Spur trail (0.6 miles.) to the summit of MT Tom arriving ~ 11:50 AM (2 hours 35 minutes book time with 2150 elevation gain), raise the flag by noontime and fly it until 2 PM. Leave MT Tom summit by 2:10 PM, returning via MT Tom, AZ and then Avalon trail, arriving back to the depot ~ 3:40 PM.
Round trip 5.8 miles, 2150 feet elevation gain, 4 hour hiking book time (excludes Flag flying time).
We can add MT Field on the way back if all agree. This would result in a Round trip of 7.2 miles, 2750 feet elevation gain, 5 hour hiking book time (excludes Flag flying time) arriving back to the Depot by ~4:40PM
Or folks could head over to MT Field during the flag flying time to greet the MT Field crew, returning to MT Tom by 2 PM
