South Kinsman group will be meeting at the picnic area at the end of the south parking lot at Lafayette Campground. AMC book time for our route is 4:05. The hike is about 5 miles and 3050 of elevation gain for the ascent. We plan on stepping off just before 7:00 to give us plenty of time for the hike, and setup on the peak. We will be going over North Kinsman on our way to Kinsman ridge and on to South Kinsman. Our planned route is Lonesome Lake Trail, Cascade Brook Trail, Fishin’ Jimmy Trail, and Kinsman Ridge Trail. We will reverse course for the return trip. The round trip will be around 10 miles, 3550 of elevation gain, somewhere around 9:30 (including peak time).
The American Flag we will be flying was flown on a combat mission in an OH-58 reconnaissance helicopter in the face of the enemy. Our flag was flown in Afghanistan in June of 2004 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom for the men and women who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 and for those Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen , and Marines that have served the United States of America, and for those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Pilot on Command on that mission was CW4 Randall Pelkey.
