Saturday appear to be a glorious day so far. We will be climbing the Signal Ridge trail to the wonderful summit of Carrigain. It is about 5 miles and has some steep climbs, but I know we are all up for it. Here is the forecast: http://1.usa.gov/1qA8c8e.
Start time: Be at the trailhead by 6:40. We need to be to the summit by 12, so boots on the trail by 7 (Casey can confirm). We will be on the summit until 2. The Signal Ridge trail is off 302 on Sawyer River Road. Follow Sawyer River Road for about 2 miles. This is a fee area, so you will need a White Mountain Parking Pass, National Parks Service Pass, or $3.
What to bring: The 10 essentials of course. Based on the forecast, make sure you have good sunscreen. Warm clothes are essential as we will be on the summit for 2 hours. NO COTTON. Here is the list of recommend gear from the AMC: http://www.outdoors.org/recreation/hiking/hiking-gear.cfm. There will be water sources on the way, so you can filter or treat water, but I would suggest bringing 2.5 to 3 liters of water for drinking and any cooking. In addition to the normal requirements, I suggest the following:
Hot drink (tea, cocoa, hot chocolate)
Hot food (Mountain House, soup, chowder)
Stove and cooking supplies
Each person is responsible for carrying a piece of flag gear, leave room in your pack.
AND…WELCOME HOME CASEY 🙂
