On September 9th Troop47 plans to set out from the Mt. Clinton Road trailhead by 8am. We’ll ascend the Crawford Path to the summit of Pierce. The scouts will set up the flagpole and the colors will fly between noon and two.

The scouts themselves put this flagpole together and have been undertaking prep hikes to get into better shape and to practice putting up the flagpole under real mountain conditions.

This event has been a focal point for the boys for several months. Throughout, they have been learning about safe hiking, teamwork, and have been mindful that this is first and foremost a memorial to those who died on September 11.

We plan to display mini-bios of the two men from the troop’s town, Tewksbury, who lost their lives on 9/11. We will do the same for the Lowell resident (that’s my city) who lost his life, as well as the former staff member from our scout camp who died that day.

We are very open to suggestions!

Afterwards we will decend via Webster Cliff trail and spend the night at Mizpah hut.

Sunday we will continue to Mt. Jackson and Mt. Webster, then return to the trailhead via the Webster-Jackson trail.

Sounds like your troop is well prepared. Good luck this year and I’m looking forward to reading your trip report and seeing your pictures.
