Considering the purpose of this site and event, I’d like to share the poem I wrote about 9/11 and shared with some people at Galehead hut.
The Day the Sky Fell
Jumbo jets fly out of the morning sky
Buildings fall from the skyline
Ashes, soot, death, debris
Terrorism hits America
Ground Zero nothing but a pile
of twisted metal and rubble
Strong men and canines
working like dogs
searching for survivors
making grisly discoveries
A grave site in New York City
the nation mourns
A hole in the Pentagon
our nation scorned
Heroism in Pennsylvania
the nation cheers
What did we do to deserve this?
We lived our lives in freedom
I was also moved to write another one for this event. Driving up 93 Sat morning, an eerie mist covered parts of the highway. I had my title. Here it is.
Into the Mist
Driving north to pay respects
to lives lost three years ago
the red, white and blue
waved freely in the great outdoors
for all to see and remember
