South Twin Mountain route:
8 AM – meet at Gale River parking lot, Gale River North Road, off of Route 3 (via the Five Corners intersection) to South Gale Road.
8:15 AM – on trail, Gale River Trail to the Garfield Ridge, head East along ridge via Garfield Ridge Trail & Twinway Trail.
11-11:15 AM – summit South Twin Mountain, begin rigging
noon – raise flag
noon – 2 PM – enjoy all that we have, both for ourselves, and for those who cannot
2 PM – lower flag
just after 2 PM – breakdown rigging, sweep summit, prepare for descent
4 PM – return to Gale River parking lot.
Trail length: 6.3 miles (4.0 miles, 0.6 miles, 0.8 miles)
Elevation gain: 3,302 ft (4,902 ft – 1600 ft)
Profile:
4.0 miles, 2,900 ft gain, from parking lot at 1,600 ft to Garfield Ridge Trail at roughly 3,500 ft
0.6 miles, no appreciable gain, to intersection with Twinway Trail
0.8 miles, 1,402 ft gain to South Twin Mountain summit
The flag I’ll be carrying will be the same 3 x 5 flag that I’ve flown from peaks, ships, and Jeeps all over the world. If a team member has another flag that they’d like to fly, please let me know, and I’ll build a bigger rig to accommodate both flags.
