Boo and I left the ski lodge parking area around 8:20. Didn’t want to be late for the noon flag raising 😮 We followed the Polecat trail all the way while the morning sky kept improving. We quickly reached the gondola landing area and then made quick work of the final short up to the summit of Wildcat D. The observation deck is now completely blocked but Boo was able to shimmie past and we placed the flag at the top of the stairs (avoiding the deck itself which is in need of repairs.) The flag was raised into the blue sky at 10:30. A little early but who can complain. :flag:
We had a steady stream of visitors through out the day including a number of AT thru hikers. Everyone was in a good mood and were appreciative of the mission of today’s hikes on the 48. A good number of the visitors to the summit took advantage of the offer to indulge in a brownie that were made by Boo. Thanks, Boo, they were delicious!
The Presidential mountains were in and out of the clouds but we think were able to see flags on Jefferson and Washington which made us very happy 😀 We were told our flad was visible from Wildcat C so that’s something. Not sure if it was visible from other peaks but we flew it as high as we could on our PVC flag pole.
We broke down our set-up at 2:00 (just after the last of the brownies was eaten). The trip down was uneventful but it’s hard to beat the views coming back down the Polecat trail. Amazing!
