BUMP – 4 days to go!!
We will be supplying burgers and dogs and stuff, so if everybody who is staying or stopping by TarryHo brings something to share we will have feast!
There will also be 2 or 3 gas grills if you want to cook up something special for the group.
Reminder – if you still need a place to stay for one or more nights next weekend, TarryHo is offering group camping along the river for $8 per night/person. He also has private camp sites available for the standard price if you want to be away from the river and group.
We are located in site 17/19 – stop by and say hello when you arrive!
in reply to: Post Gathering Cookout – TarryHo in Twin Mountain #54255Jim Hill, owner of TarryHo campground has offered a special pricing for partipants in the 8th annual Flags on the 48 event. If you want to camp someplace more central to the mountains, this is the place to be.
Group camping on the River Sites will be $8 per person/per night.
Please contact Jim at 1-603-846-5577 to make a reservation. Please let him know that you are a participant in the Flags on the 48 event, how many in your group, which nights you will be staying, and how many/what size tents. Then let us know via a PM or email so we can help Jim coordinate folks.
In addition, Saturday after the hike, all participants are invited to hang out at our trailer at TarryHo, and use the grill, stove, microwave for dinner. Bring along your favorite beverage, some food to share, and let’s tell stories about our experiences of the day. We will have chicken, steak tips, dogs and burgers to share, but please rsvp so we can judge how much we need to provide.
It’s BYOB and BYOC (Chair!)
Jim will also have a bonfire after dark.
in reply to: 2009 Flags dates #54158More central location for Post Party – worked best when at Mooseland Grill
Cards to hand out
Flyers to post at Trailhead
Flyers put up at hiking hot spots 1 month before event takes place
Create standards around signage, log books, cards, etc..
Bring back the pre-planning meeting
Identify Key board members and roles and responabilities
Enlarge board – too few doing to much – get more help! No more than one major role per person
Expand on communications – Meetup groups, nonhiking outdoor forums as well
Identify where press releases are sent – others may be then able to suggest additional place that should be added
Put the order for good weather in now!!!
in reply to: Mt Liberty #54035We will look forward to meeting! :flag:
in reply to: Mt Liberty #54032We are meeting at 7:45 at the Whitehouse Trail parking lot (1st lot north of the Flume Visitors Center)
Eveybody will be asked to carry/pack 1 item to the summit and back – part of the flag pole (it comes apart into 6 sections), ropes for the guy lines, etc..
We plan to have the flag up by noontime if not earlier, and take it down at 2 PM. Be sure to bring a jacket to stay warm while on the summit, and of course a camera!
Brian – your always welcome to stop by TarryHo where some of us will be staying. See thread we just posted – no guest fee at TarryHo for visitors!
in reply to: Mt Liberty #54031Okay – so I have fat fingers! :>
in reply to: Mt Liberty #54029Looking forward to it – only 5 weeks to go! Let’s hope that Mother Nature is getting all of teh rain out of her system and we will be blessed with good weather. But we will be there rain or shine. :flag:
in reply to: Nashua Telegraph #53147You can’t tell by the online version of the article, but the photo on the front page of the print versions is an entire 1/2 page! The story starts on page 1 and continues on page 7 with another photo of Geri, Amy, and Nilsa hiking.
For print version the story is titled:
In red letters centered “9/11: FIVE YEARS LATER”
then in larger black bold letters:
“Lowest Lows, highest peaks” strecthcing across the page above the photo.
Very nice coverage.
It was a great experience exposing the reporter, his daughter and the photographer to the event. I believe they enjoyed themselves.
in reply to: Weather predictions for Memorial Hike #52647Hey guys – current forecast on Weather.com is for a chance of Thunder Showers. Might be worth while stating what the official policy will be in case of bad weather and/or forecast for a chance of lightning.
in reply to: Pre-POST Event Gathering #52521Jay – Is there a charge for people not staying at the KOA to stop by either night?
Chip – you need to do your won flag/pole thing. Check out the gallery for photos of past years. In 2003 we had a 15 foot pole with a 6×9 flag. It was fairly easy to make use of the summit sign to assist in supporting it with guy ropes tied to rocks/branches. Let us know if you have any questions.
in reply to: New Hampshire Magazine #51508It’s on the news stands now.
Small article on Page 19 about a group that was on Mt Liberty last year. Has a group photo with the flag. It mentions the history and provides the Flags on the 48 URL.
in reply to: Where to purchase flags #51139We bought our flag online at Flags Unlimited. They sell all sizes and materials, as well as POW/MIA flags.[/url]
in reply to: Referring Websites #51074No it was not that gentleman.
