I was going to move on, but can someone explain to me why a lottery system is unfair or not doable?

I was ready to move as well, but will offer an ugly scenerio to your question.
I could get 20+ friends to each enter the lottery as a peak coordinator. I could enlist many more in fact.
Then when the name is selected, we ALL go to that peak.
Multiple chances for a single group, which would be a cheat to compromise any lottery.
Which is one reason why I am firmly against it.
NOT that “I” would actually do this, rather suggesting what someone else could do possibly do.

It is true…there are degrees of favortism…we reserve a couple of peaks for non-hikers or people physically unable to hike. Should we stop this as well?

The few peaks (Washinton, Wildcat, Cannon) should be left available to those whom are handicapped only,
hoping that someday a Veteran will get involved.

OK, I have harped on this subject long enough, we understand each other, and hopefully will continue a fair path for all.
Sometimes it is good to see the dark side of issues, as was said earlier.

I feel a little opposite on the pre-registration for youth groups. My reasoning for this entails a little bit of personal experience and from what some of the scout-leaders have told me.
        (snip)

No one wants to send young hikers with no experience on a trek above treeline.

        With all due respect.
This is exactly what I am reffering to for playing favoritism towards the scouts.
With your previous post, you have just described in detail why they should be ahead of everyone else.
        Primarily a schedule issue.
        So where does this end?
You will eventually get special interest groups all vollying for the same privileges.
If you can’t do this for all other special interest groups, then you are playing favoritism.
This sets a very difficult precedence, IMO.

        Two points:
Why does a peak have to have a maximum regsitered number of participants?
Why can’t the Scoutmaster simply sign up for the peak and then worry about filling it later, or giving it up later?

Next year I will register a Scout Group! :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag:

        One more very important point:
This year, I had no idea which peaks were pre-registered until I began the registration process, DURING CRITICAL PEAK SELECTION PERIOD!
        (first 10 min.)
What if I was planning to pick a peak, made certain plans, Hut reservations, ect, then found out it was taken by pre-registered Scouts?

I was not aware that this would be in play this year, either missed the posts or forgot.
But the PEAK LIST should be available for review by all when “pre-registration” opens.
Instead, I got a “Registration countdown clock” which is cool, but could have used the Pre-Registered list prior to regular registration opening.
Everyone involved in FOT48 needs to make advanced planning, not just Scouts.

          Interesting points Brownie.

As far as non-profit. Others would know better than I, but there is zero money exchanged for anything, so I don’t think it applies here.

          Peace.

I also can play a devils advocate only to let others realize the possible pitfalls of a progressive endeavour.
The primary reason I mentioned non-profit, was for the purpose to develop a fair institution where the members can vote in the decision process. Again, not sure it is a good idea, but would be a fair way to conduct the event.

          Great efforts by you all!
I missed the KOA meet this year and wanted to express these thoughts.

Jaytrek’s idea has been the one that we have discussed before. I can’t see that we would do all peaks in this manner.

I also think that we will allow youth groups to pre-register as well.

I do not think a lottery system should be done and I do not think peaks should be reserved in most cases.
If you play favoritism to some, then you will eventually fall into many causes.

I was a Boy Scout for many years, so I applaud the efforts of these groups to represent the FOT48.
However, pre-registration for these folks is kind of discrimination.
            Why just only Scouts?
Which is my point, that other interests could easily organize and request the same.
Do they get to pick any peak they want for pre-registration? If so, then that is quite unfair to all others.
Perhaps there could be a select, small, dedicated list of peaks available for pre-registration, by lottery, if there has to be any pre-registration at all.

As far as the rest of “standard registration” goes; the current system seems to work.
If you have vested interest in the event, then you will find a way to be online for your peak, or your back-up peak, right at the moment registration opens.

This is the only fair way to do it, otherwise organizers run a beaurocratic nightmare of decison making, which is in itself unfair to conduct.
In fact, these decisions may open a perverbial can of worms by inviting the public to participate in an event by a private set of “rules”, incorporated by the founding members of FOT48.
Is this a registered non-profit organization?
If not, does it now need to be?
Would we then solicite memberships and then cast votes for these very important decisions?

My suggestion is to keep this event as simple as possible.
Which is the current status quo.

As a peak coordinator, I was sent a link, by FOT48 to email each member of my team so that I can stay connected with plans, ect.
I sent one message to my group, but I lost the link and can’t resend another.
There is no link available on this website that I can find.

Someone please re-post the peak coordinator email link.

              Thanks,

uh, the reseaon we choose to fly the American flag is…because we are IN America?
                  :flag:

America: Love it ….or go elsewhere…

I can also 2nd the suggestion; we don’t need “help” next year on FOT48 for protest.
I think the American flag should always be the primary required flag for this event, to be properly displayed according to Gov approved methods.
Any other flag is welcome in addition, which has already been established here at FOT48.

                    Hello Stephen,
I noticed that many of the new preloaded albums created by you do not have the “add a comment” feature enabled. Perhaps you intentionally did this or something else?
I created our S Twin album and do not remember being prompted to allow this feature.
                    It just worked automatically.
I like being able to post comments to others photos, that’s a great feature. :flag:
Maybe you can check it out.

                    Thanks,
                    Brownie

EDIT: Never mind. When I log in I can add comments, however, my coworker was able to post a comment without being a member of site or logged in.
I can read comments without log on, but can’t add one unless logged in.
                    I am soo confused

We saw the A-10 flyby over our South Twin peak, it was awesome! 😮
He made 3 passes, each time pulling some stunt stuff, wing rolls, ect.
But one pass he pulled off a low barrel roll right over the summit!
                          Very Cool!
Missed the photo opps, so glad I see some others caught it.

                            Michael,
The page did not print right for me the first times I tried.
So I have this print trick I do often.
I used “print screen” on the keyboard which copies the graphic display on screen and saves to PC clipboard.
Then I open a graphic program like “Microsoft paint” and use “paste” command. This pastes the image to a new file.
Then I crop the side bar web page graphics out from the contents of the the desired History page.
End result is a clean display of banner/header, story contents and flag photo at bottom.
I just send this final image to printer for “scale to fit, single page”

I am going to try to have a summit register as well.

I got the situation under control.
Expect Team South Twin to show flying colors as far as the eye can see!
We got a 25′ pole and a big flag too. :flag: :flag:

Our plans are to stay at Galehead Hut 9/10, climb S Twin and display flag by 10AM or earlier depending on how many pancakes the crew feeds us.
Then we might go visit Tom on North Twin, or over to Jamie on Bond…or BOTH!
