in reply to: FREE flag pole #52355
how did the telescoping poles work ? are they the commercially available ones, or is there tappered pipes available somewhere ? The only thing I’ve seen at Home Depot are the straight pipes that would need sleaved or threaded coupling, which is fine, just wondering if there is some simpler design out there.

Chip – Gram,
Chip, if you want we can bring the same rig and flag we brought last year. I have a 16′ expandable pole and a 6×9 military coffin flag that was used at my fathers funeral. It came out for the first time last year in 20 years and it looked great.
Let us know, we still have some time. :flag:
Check out the pictures from Pierce last year.
Outtabreath, a flag with some meaning would be fantastic. I’d be paranoid that you’d get stuck in traffic or something, though. Why don’t you plan on bringing that and I’ll bring a rig and worst case my Home Depot flag will stay behind or we’ll have a back-up on the summit.
Oo Rah !

in reply to: We’re being interviewed by our local weekly. #52580okay, tomorrow night is said interview. I need some more eloquent quotable qoutes than “I think it’s a great way to memorialize the day” although I’ll use that. Any ideas would be appreciated.
in reply to: We’re being interviewed by our local weekly. #52579– The paper interested is “The Brookfield Journal”, Danbury News Times may be also, we’ll see.
– I’ll let the reporter know anything used needs permission first.– there’s a 6×10 for $50 here http://www.united-states-flag.com/us610spc.html
in reply to: We’re being interviewed by our local weekly. #525762 things;
– Is there any other info on the event not on this site that a reporter might be interested in ?
– Everyone should get the email address of their local paper’s editor and send them the press release and link to this site.Gram, sounds good. I can buy a flag and the gear but if someone has a pole system rigged already – why give Home Depot any more $ 🙂 .
My boys are 9 1/2 and 11 and have been doing some backpacking with me down here, but nothing more major than the CT “high peaks”. My wife is also joining us. We are booked in a “kabin” friday and saturday nights at the Woodstock KOA as of now, so hopefully that’s a meeting place.
in reply to: 2006 Post Event Gathering Thoughts #52198Okay, I got it; Broken Branch is Woodstock. It appears their pool is scheduled to close on the 10th. Never mind. 😳
in reply to: 2006 Post Event Gathering Thoughts #52197Which KOA are you referring to ? I see all 3 in the area have pools that close around that time. Whoever speaks to the camp ground could ask if they can keep the pool open through the 10th if they’ll be that many of us there for the weekend.
