wake up groggy. who can have just one martini?

pick up john and head for lincoln to meet the rest of the team: miles, nicole and jon. I call nicole ‘cookie.’ nicole calls me ‘crunch and munch.’ we both call miles ‘cream puff.’

the view of eisenhower from us 302 inspires me. feeling alive now.

set out on the historic edmands path a little after nine. ‘4 minutes past schedule,’ notes miles. the trail is quite satisfying, a pleasure in its undertaking.

emerge from the treeline about 11:30. at the trailhead of the eisenhower loop, we hear word that they’re expecting us at the summit. miles and I bolt to the top and, with the help of a few kind hikers, manage to get the banner up just after noon.

miles cooks up some chili dogs as the rest of the team gazes at the splendor of old glory and the grandeur of the whites.

we spot banners on monroe, isolation, pierce, jackson, and field – maybe carrigain, but that might be my imagination. it’s easy to see why they named this peak ‘mt pleasant.’

pack it up just after two and head back down. miles seems ‘concerned’ that the mooseland grill may run out of woodstock inn red rack ale, like they did last time we were there…

…they don’t. meet some fine folks at the party, where it finally merges into one.

Excellent job, gentlemen! Quite an achievement, indeed. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to help with the event. Here’s to a (star-spangled) banner year!

in reply to: Meeting Summary #49569

Just wanted to mention it was nice to meet y’all on Saturday (for those who recall milesmountain and I showing up after our Isolation hike). I imagine you guys had a tremendous trek up the Hancocks on Sunday; would have liked to be there…. Please keep up us in mind for volunteer work regarding this year’s event; we’d be more than happy to contribute to the cause. Take care and we’ll see you at the party – if not before.

in reply to: Peak count (2003) #49077

                        Peak Name: Carter Dome
                        # of people in party: 3
Short description of rigging and pole system: 5 3′ sections of 2″ PVC pipe. Each pipe section was threaded at the ends which allowed them to screw together easily. Eyebolts were attached to the pole for securing the 5′ x 8′ flag with a length of cord. 3 sections of 33′ cord were secured to the pole beneath the flag and then staked to the ground for support.
Any suggestion on improvements/changes for next year (optional): mission statement at visitor centers and huts. mission statement at trailheads the day of the event. “unlisted” distinguishable peaks (e.g. mt hight) made available for the event.

This event was spectacular! We could have used a little more wind up there, but we were able to see flags on Jefferson, Madison, and Moriah with binoculars. Quite impressive, indeed.
