I think we’re waiting for everyone to get home and activate the gallery and also set up the trip report folder.
We had a great day yesterday on Cannon!
in reply to: Read off the Names #53823I would be glad to take 62 names up Cannon. Because Cannon is going to be “busy”, I probably won’t read them, but will have them next to the Mission Statement.
You can PM me the names. I think next year we could really get this off the ground if we start early.
Check out 2006 Jackson in the gallery. Outtabreath’s group brought up a poster and I think all who saw it were very moved.
Hey everyone!
We’re looking for more supporters on Cannon. Unfortunately, skibones had to drop out, so my daughter and I will be raising the flag on Cannon. We will be taking the tram up around 11:15 and flying the flag from the observation tower. This is an accessible peak, except for the stairs up the tower. So for any hikers recovering from an injury, or otherwise unable to do a climb this year, this is a great way to participate.
Cal, if your friend is interested, have her respond to this post. We’re looking forward to a great day!
Hi Skibones,
No, I don’t know anyone who will be hiking up, but with flying the flag from the observation tower, we are sure to have a lot of visiters.Let me know about the flag – I don’t own one, but am happy to purchase one. This is my fourth year participating, and it’s my “turn” to pitch in and get a flag! Looks like you have the pole from 2005, so that’s good.
My daughter and I will be taking the tram up – sounds like a good idea to meet at the base.
Looking at last year’s pictures of Cannon in the gallery, it looks like they flew the flag from the observation tower. Was that your plan?
I’ll wait to hear back from you about the flag. It’s less than a month away!!!
in reply to: Ideas for 2007 FOT48 #53276Hi everyone,
I hope the concept of handicapped peaks is here to stay. We have had a number of injuries in the hiking community over the last year. And I myself have recently just joined the DL for awhile!Last year a pregnant woman did Cannon, and I thought that was terrific. So whether it’s a temporary or permanent “disability,” I think reserving these peaks is a great way to insure that everyone can participate!
Hope the Planning Meeting goes well, will look forward to the minutes!
Jenifer, I enjoyed your trip report. Last year my daughter , her husband, and our one year old grandson joined my husband and I for Pierce.
This year our daughter is pregnant, due in October. It briefly flashed through her mind that she could take the tram up Cannon and raise the flag. She decided against it because of the drive from Boston. It would have been great to have 2 pregnant flag bearers on Cannon!
And here’s the best part – her first child, now two years old, is named…….Matthew!
I wanted to share a couple of the entries that were made in our journal:
“I am doing this hike in memory of all who perished on that day and in particular my friends from New York – Lt Paul Mitchell, Firefighter John Satore, and friends Jane Baeszler, Niacy Pietrunti, and Jason DeFazio. May they rest in peace.”
And from a thru-hiker after Peter had pointed out Maine to him and offered some Trail Magic:
“It is so nice to see Maine in the distance, it almost makes me want to cry. Thank you for your kindness.”
We had a day not soon forgotten. See you next year!
in reply to: UPDATED: How to post 2006 FOT48 Images #51725I disabled my Norton Antivirus, so I would allow pop ups, but still can’t get the pop up window after clicking add photos..
I see someone else added some pics today to Jackson, so it must be my computer that’s acting up!
Thanks anyway, Chris!
in reply to: UPDATED: How to post 2006 FOT48 Images #51723I’m having trouble putting additional pictures on Jackson. I log in, get to Jackson in the Gallery, get the “Album Actions” drop down, click on Add Photos, but nothing happens.
I’ll admit I’m no computer whiz, so any help much appreciated!
Thanks, Chip, for the e-mail and the offer of rides. Peter and I are staying Friday and Saturday nights in Lincoln, so no rides needed. We hope to come down to the KOA for the post event gathering.
I agree that meeting on the summit is the best plan. I estimate it’s about 45 minutes from Lincoln to the trailhead. So we’ll probably leave Lincoln between 7:30 and 7:45 with the intention of getting to the summit at 11:00. The last 2 years we have hiked with small flags attached to our packs – I think it publicizes the event and identifies us to other members of the team.
Only 2 weeks till the event!
Hello Team Jackson!
A couple of things –
Chip, you mentioned you’d be worried about Outtabreath bringing the flag and maybe being late. No need to worry – I think he and his brother left at 6AM for Pierce. It actually worked out great with the whole team on the summit by 10:30. We were all afraid of being late!My husband and I are usually “book time” hikers. Chip, were you thinking the team would meet and hike up together, or just set a time for the flag raising and we’d all get ouselves there by then?
As to the parking, on a drive thru the notch we checked out the situation. There are a number of spaces across from the Jackson trailhead, and also the shoulder is wide, so I don’t think there will be a problem.
Last year I brought a journal for Pierce, and would be happy to do so again. I also took many pictures and posted some to the website. Let me know if there is anything else my husband and I can do.
Hello Team Jackson – “gram and Peter” are checking in.
Chip, don’t be concerned about the rigging just yet. We’ll all help out.
As a matter of fact, my husband and I did Pierce last year and met a great group of people on the team. I believe some of those folks are signed up for Jackson this year. Our team leader had a terrific system of rigging. While I don’t know if they would be able to bring the flag again, they can certainly offer their guidance as to what we need.
Note to Jerry and company – looking forward to seeing you all this year. Unfortunately Matthew, now almost two will not be joining us. But it’s because of a happy event – his mom is expecting and will be 8 months pregnant on Sept 9!
Chip, nice to hear that you will be bringing your sons. This is a great event to get kids involved in. How old are they?
Regards to all –
in reply to: A generational thing #51544We also had 3 generaations on Pierce this year. My grandson is 13 months. Matthew “hiked” up on the backs of his parents, it would be interesting to know who the youngest “real” hiker was.
As for the age of Matthew’s grandparents, we plead the fifth!
