in reply to: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50520
I agree with Jaytrek, especially since 9/11 still fails on a weekend next year. Also, I think a flag-flying weekend will add unneeded pressure to cover all 48 peaks on both days. I don’t think flying flags on 37 peaks one day and 42 peaks the next is as special as flying flags on all 48 peaks on 9/11…
Also, is it possible that this year was so successful, without any media coverage, because it was held on 9/11?
Finally, can we agree that 9/17/2005 is too far removed from 9/11 to really make sense? If so, I feel the only democratic way to resolve this is to poll it out.
in reply to: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50513Personally, I feel the emphasis should be placed on when it makes the most sense to hold the memorial itself, not how it will affect the post-event gathering. I also feel that flying flags on two days may be difficult to coordinate. I think we should keep it simple and have one special day for it. Just my opinion…

in reply to: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50502Is Sunday, September 11, 2005 a possibility?

If you can find the article (you are the second to tell me about it) and let me know which day, that’d be great. I’m searching online for it, but in vain.
I think this may be it:

in reply to: Time to pay the piper #50402In retrospect, I feel many of you are probably right. Advertisements on this site could change the character of it and the event. We are considering what the best approach is in terms of the site’s expenses.
in reply to: No press coverage this year? #50475I’m still surprised that some of the local papers didn’t do a post-event write-up anyway…
in reply to: Website Updates #50016Uploaded a favicon.ico file to the Web server so folks that bookmark the site will have a flag icon associated with the bookmark and in their address bar.
in reply to: Time to pay the piper #50378So you’ve estimated $205.65 to support the site for one year? If site traffic remains high, I don’t think you’ll have much of a problem attaining that through the Google AdSense program. In time, they will do a pretty good job of serving related advertisements. Perhaps we can all agree to scan the Google Ads during each visit and click on one of the “sponsors” from time to time. I could put them in the blue left border under “Let Freedom Ring…” and try to make it as unintrusive as possible.
However, your offer of Web space and an Email address to site donators is interesting. If you could get 10 people to donate 20 bucks for that, you’re set. I think that’s a pretty good deal, but just watch the disk space and bandwith used. You don’t want to increase operational costs.
I think either approach is reasonable, but I voted for ads as it’s easiest to implement and administer.
in reply to: It’s official!!! All 48 were covered!!! #50373That is great news. Way to go everybody!

Congrats Ped! Nice job on the hike. I felt pretty sick last week with a 104*F fever (still not sure what caused that) and I came close to bagging the whole thing. I then thought of what you’ve been through the past seven months and it really inspired me to suck it up and go. Fortunately by Saturday I felt pretty good aside from a mild headache. Just wanted to tell you that…

Please add them to the appropriate album so we have all available images on this Web site. Instructions can be found here:
in reply to: Instructions for Posting 2004 FOT48 Images #50336FYI – I’ve changed the permissions on the albums to allow any forum member to add photos to existing albums. If you have photos for an album that already exists, feel free to add them to the appropriate peak album. This will let us keep all pics for each peak in one location. Any new nested peak albums that are created will automatically inherit this new permissions approach.
