The remnants of Frances is expected to affect the area Thursday with upwards to 4″ of rain. Those backcountry camping/hiking on Friday (this includes me) should be aware of possible issues crossing streams and low-lying areas. Have a backup plan in place. We may have to change our route or car camp

Should see you there. I’m doing North Twin and will probably take a jaunt over to check out the views and see your flag. 8)
Great. Be sure to introduce yourself. The display will be small; a 3′ X 5′ as we’ll be backpacking in from Lincoln Woods.
Also, please start a new thread indicating your plan to hike North Twin.

in reply to: Solo Hikers on the Bonds #50053We’re also basecamping in the Pemi, but will be heading down Twin Brook from South Twin. Question: Why do you need to meet up with other hikers in order to check in at home?

Jaytrek57 (and anyone else)- The South Kinsman Team is also staying at Lafayette Campground on Friday and Saturday night. We are in sites #57 & #59, right on the Pemi. Stop by and say hi!
RodHI Rod – you pulled up a thread from last year’s event. I’m going to lock it and create a new one for 2004. Welcome, BTW.
in reply to: List updated #49982Great. Thanks for the update, Stephen. Should we make a final push promoting this on other Web sites to get the final peaks covered and create a buzz in the hiking community?

Wow, done deal, good work and kudos to all. 😀
Greg? I think “mountainside” is two separate words? At least it is two words in the original song…?
My bad… just testing you guys 😉It’s HERE so that’s good enough for me… 😛
in reply to: Summit Signs #49735in reply to: Summit Signs #49732So….should I update the summit sign files with dirt_girl’s updates?
in reply to: How long do your pictures take…. #49945We’ll be hiking out of the Pemi Sunday morning to head home to CT. I should be able to get the pics uploaded Sunday night.

I also nominate Greg to receive the 72nd shirt. All in favor say I (I,I,I,I,I,I,I). The I’s have it! 😛
Thanks, but Stephen was probably more instrumental in getting this year’s event to where it is so give it to him. I just frosted the cake, but he baked it…
I more than likely won’t be at the Mooseland so I’ll wait for the post-event period to order a couple.
We could always use CafePress for a free (in terms of set up costs) alternative. With CP, there is a base price per item, but you can increase that and proceeds could be used to support the site.
I think they only have cotton Tee-shirts and they are rather expensive (the recover all set up costs through the per item price), but it’s a pretty simple option…

Question: Who are the original 6?
I not sure of all the initial six hikers, but I know Frodo, Gail Linehan, and Mary-Margaret were part of it. The original FOT48-2002 “committee” consisted of:
Frodo – could very well be considered the catalyst of the Flags on the 48 event.
RJ – I don’t see Richard much online anymore, and not on here at all, but he was critical in the FOT48-2002 as he accepted all sign-ups via Email and manually updated the sign-up file.
Gail Linehan and MMM – part of the original crew up Liberty in 2001, along with Frodo
giffordpinchot – FOT48-2002 “committee” member
Me – Originally this event’s Web presence was hosted on AlpineZone and I had a similar role as I do now as site designer, although Stephen is now adopting much of that. There have been many other participants providing input along the way. Stephen came on board for FOT48-2003 as sign-up recipient and has now sort of taken the role as the primary administrator.
