in reply to: Post Event Location Suggestion #51731Great Point X.
SilentCal and I had a brief conversation about this. KOA might be a pretty good option for those that are spending the night and for those that just want to stop by on their way home.
The Woodstock is fantastic, but on a Saturday afternoon/night do you think it would be too crowded?
Either way I know I’m having a beer.
Peace

in reply to: KOA Broken Branch Sat 9/10 #51431Great news.
OK…being a type A, I had to call KOA right away to get the “word”.
KOA Broken Branch will charge FOT48 crews, $9.00 per person (straight). This is, from what I remember, a very good deal.
Just remember to have something with the FOT48 on it. Patch, mission statement, etc…
As far as day use, again, let’s wait and see.
Peace.
in reply to: KOA Broken Branch Sat 9/10 #51430Trekman is right, never assume.
I can say that KOA told me that our group is welcomed, they would put us in the same spot and there would be a 10% discount for all who present some sort of FOT48 material.
I am trying to get up there early to work out those “pesky” what if type of questions, but it is up in the air right now.
My personal thoughts. Anytime after 3:00pm there will be plenty of us there to point people in the right direction and help out if need be. If people arrive before me or MJ just prop up a flag for all to see (island on the right side of the main building).
My guess right now, there will be about 20 FOT48 people there…hopefully more.
MJ,
Yeah day use. My answer would be “let’s see what happens”. If KOA wants to (which is their right), I will help out with that so people are not so turned off.
I’m assuming they are just charging for 1 night as opposed to 2, b/c of it being off season. It was $15.00 if I recall for the planning meeting, right?
I will try and phone KOA today/tomorrow to get an answer.Peace.
in reply to: Peak Coordinators #51370Just my $.02.
I bet there are some who signed up thinking they are responsible for that peak even though a PC has been assigned.
Although it will be minimal, my feeling is there will be multiple crews doing the same peak who for one reason or other fail to communicate through this website.
Intially I had mixed emotions about this scenario, you know, you hike to YOUR summit and a crew already has a flag up. In the end though, I’m just happy to be out that day and take part in this event.
Peace.
in reply to: August 11: Camping Out #51130Thanks for the kind words everyone. Pleasure to have you here. Magic I made a mistake, I’m pretty good at pick-up sticks, not chess. 😉
I know I will see everyone at some point that week-end.
Peace.
in reply to: August 11: Camping Out #51120Plenty of trees.
Unless you have netting or a light bivy…I am not taking responsibilty for the ass kicking the deer flies will give you. 😮
They have been quite bad this year in the Blue Hills.
in reply to: August 11: Camping Out #51118Cal-
The directions are idiot proof, take it from me I use them everyday. 😉Anytime after 6:00pm. That’s 1800 for you military. 🙁
Bring what you like. I will provide burgers and hot dogs and all the fixings. if people want to bring a dish…well the more the merrier.
A towel and swimwear wouldn’t be a bad idea either.
See you Thursday!
Either is fine by me. Would also like to “trot” over to Lincoln, did this two years ago and had a blast.
Plus by the beginning of September, I’d like to hear Frodo’s excuse on why the Yankees are out of contention. 😉
Perhaps the other people who signed up can chime in as well. :flag:
peace.
