>>closest Saturday to 9/11… It’s how we’ve decided the date in 2002 and 2003<<
either the closest, or the first saturday after, either is good, standardization is best –
so far it has been the first saturday after 9/11 till this year (on saturday 9/11)>>New England highpoints is certainly a great idea.<<
great idea – 19 more 4000 footers and more state highpointsmt. marcy

2005?in reply to: Thank you, participants #50335you guys did do a great job – it is fantastic that every peak was covered this year – hope it will be a repeat for many years to come – – – – – – and thanks to the moderators for inviting me to post the n.y. highpoint pictures in the gallery (i see they are getting viewed a lot, i hope everyone enjoyed them).

2005?in reply to: How long do your pictures take…. #49952they are almost instant (digital camera) but after driving 300 miles north, i spent 2 days hiking (flew the flag saturday, hiked franconia ridge sunday)i put almost 200 pictures in the computer sunday night & adjusted brightness & contrast – posted monday
in reply to: New poll: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50549from the larger group that participated this year (2004) compared to last year (2003) you could probably easily pull it off for both days, you have built up such momentum here i’m sure many will hike 2 days, (i will) – i would like to participate saturday 2005 with flags on the 48 and sunday 9/11 go to n.y.’s highpoint and fly a flag – hope it works out so that i can do both next year (2005), like i did last year (2003).
in reply to: How much did you spend? #50413>>They muttered something about waiting a long time to be served to a guy in a Yankee Hater shirt!<<
he is probably one of those guys who roots for two teams. his home team plus whoever the yankees are playing against.
many mets fans are like that (root for the mets and whoever is playing the yankees).in reply to: How much did you spend? #50409shared a nacho platter and had a burger and a couple iced teas – i guess i spent about $15.
in reply to: Are you an AMC member? #50450look out for them – if they can find a way to take over flags on the 48 they will!
i am a member… they are mostly good, i like thier magazine, i like the way that they have organized hikes scheduled, i like pinkham notch visitors center, shuttles (i used the shuttle once) and trail maintenance. i am not crazy about the huts. i also don’t like the way that they weasel thier way into running everything in and about new england hiking – – – they run the new hampshire 4000 footers list, the new england 4000 footers list, the new england 100 highest list and now… they have taken over the northeast 115ers – – – as soon as i heard that priscilla robertson (115ers) was retireing and handing it over to them (the AMC) i volunteered to take it over for her. but it wasn’t meant to be, she was already giving it up to them and the AMC wouldn’t have it any other way. it used to take 2 weeks for your patch from the 115ers, when you finish your 115 now you will have the 6 month bureaucratic wait like the other AMC lists for your patch and recognition, just leave a space for it… it will come someday just like the other 4000 footer patches did – – – – in n.y. we have a different one running each list. we have the adirondack 46ers, and the catskill 35ers, and both are seperate from each other and any hiking club (and your patch and congratulations letter take 2 weeks) – the adirondack mountain club has nothing to do with any peak list and the camaraderie in both the 35ers & 46ers is much better than in the bureaucratic AMC 4000′ clubs – – – – – also there is another reason the 115er should not be “owned” by the AMC – there are many more new yorkers that have finished the 115 than new englanders, almost half of all finishers are from n.y. (15-20 more would make 1/2), the other half are from the rest of the world) – don’t get me wrong, i like the AMC for the most part, but they are just too big to really care!
in reply to: Time to pay the piper #50392instead of a registration fee how about charging everyone $5 a year for each flag over thier avitar – that way the the ones that use it the most, pay the most (oh no, i just realized i now have 2 flags) then we could make double & triple masts to raise more money.
in reply to: Feedback on the Mooseland #50352-Should we go there again next year? Why or why not?
+was a nice place with friendly staff and plenty of room – only reason not to go is if the crowd will be bigger-What was your favorite meal? Beverage?
+only had one meal (pesto chicken sandwich) it was good – shared a nacho appetizer that was good (and large).-What did you like most about the place?
+everything was good.-What did you like least?
+would have been nicer with one dining room instead of two but where would you find a bigger place?-What would you like to see done differently next year?
+nothing – everything was good – met a lot of people that i only know from here and views from the top – everyone was friendly – it made my day after my 8 mile hike back down (and 3.5 hour drive while i rested my legs).in reply to: Good luck everyone! #50296>>Would the appropriate thing be the peak or the state highpoint (which is on the ridge of Mt Frissell)?<<
trekman
the high pointers of the united states consider
>>Connecticut Frissell-S. Slope 2,380<<
to be the highest even though the summit of frissell is in mass. – i imagine as far as flying a flag either frissell or bear would count since there is no official list yet.everyone have fun – i am getting out of here in 2 hours to head north
in reply to: Good luck everyone! #50289well said – – hope everyone has a good hike – i know i enjoyed south kinsman last year – – – – – besides those n.h. 48 that are being “flagged” i know a canadian constable is going up maine’s highpoint (mt. katahdin) saturday, i will be climbing n.y.’s (mt. marcy) and i know a group will also be up washington a little earlier than the flags on the 48 crew – – i would have liked it if there was going to be flags on mansfield vermont, greylock mass. and frissell ct. but as of now i haven’t heard of anyone “volunteering” – – – if anyone should hear of a climb of any other state highpoint let me know and if we can get in touch with them we can give them some credit for it on the website (last year when i did mt. marcy on 9/11 there was a 46er there with a small flag, so it is possible that someone will be up other mountains), or if anyone knows of any parties that would be willing to do either (or both)let them know that they could flag them (mansfield, vt. and greylock, ma. both have roads so they dont have to be hikers), let them know and i will make sure they are included with the other state highpoint climbers.
in reply to: Where is everyone staying that weekend? #49756sleeping in the back of my blazer (much more comfortable than a tent, plus if it is too hot i have a little 12 volt fan).
>>The harder part is putting the real names together with the screen names.<<
i would think the screen name is what would go on the nametags since it is the name that everyone who doesn’t know you face to face would be familiar with (although it wouldn’t matter for me since both spell “ken”)
