Excellent! Hopefully WCTDave will chime in at some point. You should also post in Trips & Events – Patrick has commented in his South Carter thread about Middle.
In fact, whoever’s willing to commit to the peak, go for it and sign up all official-like!
:flag:in reply to: Need some help #51478WCTDave –
I think we’ll probably be taking you up on the S. Carter offer. The person doing M. Carter (Patrick Marr) had also mentioned he’d take it as well if nobody else did. I think the thing to do is put the two of you in touch so you can make it a joint effort to hike up to the ridge, then just separate once up there to cover the two summits.
What do you think?
in reply to: South Twin #51081I will have something special with me for Katrina, that I’m bringing up to whatever summit I end up floating on (hopefully that peak can accomodate it).
in reply to: Anybody been to Eisenhower recently? #51603Yes, I am told there is still a summit sign sticking out of the cairn.
in reply to: Osceola, East Peak #51287If you split up from the two ends, you can do a key swap on the summit and that way folks can do through-hikes, which are always more fun than up-and-back.
However you choose, please do split up for the sake of LNT principles and WMNF group size recommendations. Even if it’s just to start at different times from the same place.
in reply to: Need some help #51477Here’s what I know / can do. The rest I don’t know.
Adams – I’ll ping SherpaK over on VFTT.
S. Hancock – I’ll ping Dr. Wu over on VFTT.
Owl’s Head – I’ll ping dms over on VFTT.
S. Carter has two people who volunteered to take it if nobody else does. I now realize one of them is the M. Carter person.
Tri’s – that’s the Scouts, I’m not overly worried.
Wildcat D is Jay’s wife.
Carrigain – you know who to PM 😉
Washington – Periwinkle is a *goddess* for taking this peak at the last minute!!!in reply to: Anybody been to Eisenhower recently? #51602A group from VFTT just did a Presidential traverse over the weekend. I’ll send your question on and let you know.
in reply to: KOA Broken Branch Sat 9/10 #51416Just to be clear – are we feeding people or just providing the grills and it’s BYOfood?
in reply to: Need some help #51475Can you help us out and list which peaks are unaccounted? Some I’m not concerned about, like the Scouts on Tecumseh and the Tripyramids. But the others should be here.
Unless the only people signed up are friends of the leader and they’ve already all coordinated so they think they don’t need to post here?
in reply to: Carter Dome #51584There’s one spot on the Dome summit with a clear view across the col to Mt. Hight. If you do get a flag over there, it should make for some awesome pictures – please take a bunch!
:flag:in reply to: Kinsman, North #51575FYI – I did ask one of the admins (who have access to the contact information) to ping this coordinator. Unfortunately, that’s all I can do.
in reply to: I can’t believe this is happening! #51587No, it shouldn’t, and I hope it has no bearing on coverage and commitment to the event.
in reply to: Need some help #51473Thanks! You’re the second person to offer to take it at the end of the week so either we’ll bribe one of you to take Washington or you can make S. Carter a joint effort, always better than a solo trip.
Please read here. You are supposed to park across the street in the big winter lot on Rte 302, then follow a new trail that goes to the Sugarloaf I campground, which is where the shuttle van pickup will be. The shuttle gives priority to hut guests, but any hiker can flag it and ride it. You’ll need to flag it at Hale Brook since the only official stops are the Zealand Trailhead and Sugarloaf I.
To get to the Sugarloaf I campground the Forest Service has just finished cutting a trail along the south bank of the Ammonoosuc River. This trail is historic as it follows the grade of the original 1800’s carriage road through Crawford Notch. The trail is reached by following 302 east (toward the Notch) and crossing over the Ammonoosuc River on the highway bridge. Directly after the bridge the trail turns right down the embankment, and follows the left bank of the river. The trail runs about 1/2 a mile to the Zealand Road, just above the bridge construction. Hiking time from the parking lot to the shuttle stop would be about 30 minutes, or 40 for those hiking with kids.
Construction starts on Tuesday. Monday at 4pm they will start towing any remaining cars out of the Zealand parking lot (and presumably Hale Brook and Sugarloaf and the rest of the road).
You can ford the river and walk up the road or take the AMC shuttle, but you won’t be able to drive.
