in reply to: A generational thing #51542
I’m as old as my tongue, and a little bit older than my teeth. 😀
in reply to: New Hampshire Magazine #51511FYI – Alpinista is on her way to New Orleans, so we’re short a media resource.
in reply to: Weather forcast 9/11 #51554I will take crisp mornings anytime!
in reply to: BONDCLIFF The Immaculate #51323There’s a pretty good deal of overflow space up on the ridge (just don’t pee in the watershed). As for policy? The caretaker will do his or her best to find you space. This includes multiple tents per platform or overflow site. There may also be space in the shelter itself for one person. I’m inclined to say that somebody will find you something, though I certainly can’t promise it.
I think Guyot is in a protection area like all the other major sites, meaning you’ll have to be 1/4 mile away and then 200′ off-trail. Generally, that means there are a few sites just outside that 1/4 mile boundary, and the only hardship is a long walk to get your water.
Magic? You know that area far better than I do … any comment?
in reply to: Need some help #51471C’mon folks – you know you want these peaks!
Washington is the king – climb from the base, drive to the Nelson Crag parking area and hike from there, or even drive to the top. Take some friends with you. Do you know a veteran who’d like to see the event? Perhaps someone disabled who can’t hike? Take advantage of the accessibility. From Washington there will be many a peak visible.
South Carter is a *nice* hike. Make a loop by going up over the beautiful Imp Face outlook and down through Zeta Pass and 19-Mile Brook, or go up and back 19-Mile Brook. Either way, it’s a nice ridge, there are views to be had, and it’s not a bad summit.
Owl’s Head is a challenge and an experience. If you haven’t been, now’s the time to go! If you have, why not head back again? I was just there for my second time and enjoyed it – go there when it matters; make your summit count by raising the flag!
in reply to: For those staying at Guyot – West Bond Cairn #51517As the person who did West Bond two years ago (see my avatar) I can tell you that the cairn was not a necessary part of the flag rigging at all. The surface up there is rough enough and has enough loose stone that a flagpole can easily be raised to the west of the cairn.
It was a *big* cairn. I’m surprised and annoyed at this move by the FS, but this is not the forum for discussing it.
in reply to: BONDCLIFF The Immaculate #51314Guyot holds quite a few – you can double the tents on each plaform, the shelter has plenty of room, and the caretaker has a number of overflow sites available to put people in. If you think you can get there by late afternoon, I’d still try for the overnight.
in reply to: KOA Broken Branch Sat 9/10 #51412Awesome – thanks, Jay!
in reply to: Officially "Unofficial" Post Trip Libations #51344It all depends on what time I get down – if I’m down by 4 or 5, I may swing by. If it’s later, though, I’m heading home. I’ve got a short work week following Fot48 and will need to get everything done that I can…
in reply to: Liberty coordinator #51384Thanks again for taking over, Mike!
