I’ll be there between 3:00 and 4:00 and will start setting everything up.
Oh, and don’t worry – I’m bringing the small tent. 30Β° nights are a bit chilly for the highly-vented Taj π
in reply to: Sunday, September 11, 2005 #50613We’ll make sure to discuss accessibility issues at this weekend’s meeting on your behalf.
in reply to: Planning Meeting Question (Newbee) #50742There are a number of easy peaks available. Those that come to my mind first are Osceloa, Tecumseh, and Pierce or Jackson. The routes to these peaks all have good footing, aren’t overly steep, and aren’t long.
If you can arrange a stay at Mizpah Hut (reservations) or Nauman Tentsite (no reservations) the previous night, you’re already on the trail and get a head start on Pierce or Jackson.
in reply to: Flags Weekend F.A.Q #50766Beaver Brook is actually a mile past Five Corners (the junction of Trudeau Road with the Gale River Road). It’s a good meeting spot for those not familiar with the area, being right on Rte 3, and has a large parking lot with two driveways, and a fine privy.
However, the Garfield trailhead isn’t difficult to find; as long as you take the right end (literally) of the Gale River Road. So really either place is good to meet at.
I’d say 9am is a good time to be starting on the hike; I wouldn’t want to start any later than that.
However, if we’re doing the Cannonballs, obviously we don’t want to drive up to Beaver Brook.
in reply to: Flags Weekend F.A.Q #50761If we know where we’re going hiking, meet at the trailhead. If not, meet at the campground … or … at the visitor information center right off I-93 on the Kanc (super-convenient and easy to find).
If you’re sure we’re hiking north of Franconia Notch, Beaver Brook wayside area on Rte 3 is also a good meeting point.
in reply to: Hiking events #50735Just a note – as of last weekend there was still a lot of snow and ice up on the Kinsman Ridge Trail between the Hi-Cannon Trail and the Lonesome Lake Trail.
My plan is to follow SilentCal up Garfield, ‘cuz that’s really a gorgeous hike. But … if the weather’s lousy and there wouldn’t be views anyway, I’ll think about getting the Cannonballs…
in reply to: Flags Weekend F.A.Q #50753Awesome! Thanks for arranging this, SilentCal!
EDIT:
I’ll be there probably 3pm-ish on Friday. I’ll help set up the common area with whomever’s there. I’d love to do like we had last year with the big tarps; I have one such tarp, hopefully we’ll have others.in reply to: 2005 Planning Weekend: May 21-22 #50704Welch-Dickey is jsut about the best-bang-for-the-buck hike up there. And a great idea for Sunday since it’s on the way home down I-93 (Waterville Valley).
Chickety and Neighbor Dave are in NC already? I should have known they’d make good time.
in reply to: 2005 Planning Weekend: May 21-22 #50694The 25th? You mean the 21st, right?
BUT …
Nevermind that you can’t make the morning … I just checked and that weekend is the full moon. You should head out *after* our meeting and do a night hike!
8)in reply to: 2005 Planning Weekend: May 21-22 #50690Hmm. Rules me out.
πin reply to: 2005 Looking for Volunteers! #50160I imagine some of this will be hashed out at the planning meeting, like what the Peak Coordinator positions will do (or if we even still need them, given the notion of the person responsible for a given peak vs. the other participants).
I will say that after 3 years of choosing my peak I plan to go on-call this year. Especially if we have a Saturday evening get-together, it should be easy to discuss and decide where on-call’s should hike the next morning.
But not West Bond again, please!
πin reply to: Highland Center update??? #50661I think that no matter what we decide for 2005 being a Sunday, the pizza bar would be a fantastic idea for 2006.
in reply to: Hiking events #50728I’m up for hikes both days. I wouldn’t mind doing some non-4K’s in the area. I’d be up for the Cannon Balls or Scar Ridge, or even Cherry Mountain or the Sugarloafs. I’ve been on Mt. Wolf (and I don’t believe it’s an NEHH, either).
I may bring the bike, too, in case a cycling mood catches me. π
in reply to: 2005 Planning Weekend: May 21-22 #50684Attendee(s): MichaelJ
Arriving: Friday afternoon
Leaving: SundayI’ll have the Taj Michael ΓΌber-tent unless the weather isn’t warm enough for it yet. π
in reply to: Planning weekend 2005 #50583I’m good on May 21-22 and the Woodstock KOA.
