1 so far, hoping for morein reply to: Vote for the post-event party locale #49780I think that by rule such a discount should apply to each individual check, which is consistent with what you discovered. But I’m not a lawyer (nor do I desire to be one). 😀
in reply to: Stephen WHO? #49884Woo-hoo! He’s alive!!!
😀(I’m not taking West Bond again, though)
in reply to: I want to do this! #49880You’re welcome to join me on Garfield as well!
In the past we did the patches, since they’re always popular with hikers who sew them onto their packs and were very cheap. Since we have a logo designed, I imagine a t-shirt would not be hard to come up with, but I’d imagine we’d want a good committment of people willing to pay for them prior to any kind of order going out.
in reply to: Vote for the post-event party locale #49768So is it official? Should we post a sticky or notice somewhere that the Mooseland is the place? Email the participants to invite them?
in reply to: Summit Signs #49714I really liked it – it flows well. A few little things caught my eye, and these are just how I’d do it, not mandates and barely suggestions. Though I think I’m right on the punctuation. 😀
No commas in the “Three days after …” sentence.
Is it correct to show “compassion for … loss” as opposed to sympathy?
I’d add “event”: The “Flags on the 48” event was given life.
Instead of “… lost. Yet the feedback …” I would do “… lost; however, the feedback …”
No comma after “continues to honor”
Add a comma after “tragic losses”
No comma after “Armed Forces”I used lightweight clothesline. Not the superlight-floating-plastic kind, though, that stuff is really hard to work with.
To cut it, wrap the location with 3 or 4 tight passes of duct tape, then slice down the middle.
To anchor, I’ve just used summit rocks. Lift a heavy rock, set a coil of rope under it, drop the rock. On Monroe, you should find larger boulders that you can just wrap around, too.
Monroe won’t require you to go very high with your pole, so you won’t need to go too far out with the guy lines.
in reply to: Bridge (de) construction at Zealand. #49821Max and I got our flag something like 18-20′ in the air on Carter Dome two years ago … it was visible over the trees from Wildcat. If you have any specific flagpole questions, let me know.
I will say that the key to PVC is the guy lines.
in reply to: Where do we go this year? #49531Just a note – I did West Bond last year, left the summit a bit early (1:30) due to incoming weather, booked it all the way back to the Zealand trailhead, and still got there after a lot of the crowd had already left.
But I’m sure many of us will still be there. Which reminds me, I need to reserve my motel room. I’m not driving home after this and my camping gear will all be packed for a long weekend in the Catskills the following week.
in reply to: Mt. Zealand memorial hike #49812Thanks for the information. I’ve posted it to VFTT.
in reply to: Bridge (de) construction at Zealand. #49817Woo-hoo! That’s great news for us (though it means at some point that bridge will be closed for repair). Definitely fly that flag high because I’ll be watching from Garfield with the 70-200mm zoom.
🙂in reply to: Mooseland Grill Tally #48946This is getting confusing, since this particular thread starts with 2003 then jumps into the 2004 gathering. Perhaps we should lock it, copy the few posts and start a new thread with “2004” in the subject?
in reply to: 100% signups! #49785Vantage points that spring to mind are Zeacliff, Mt. Hight, the cliff lookout on the east subsummit of Cannon, somewhere along Webster Cliff, Mt. Avalon…
in reply to: 100% signups! #49782I was working the crowd on Jefferson today! Well, okay, just talking with one other hiker; I forgot to get a name but he’d been on Jefferson during the event two years ago, and I told him all about this year and referred him to the web site. Already I was wishing for cards.
How goes the design on that little display thing we talked about? I want to stock it with some cards, and drop it where we can (Mtn Wanderer?). Anyone who goes by Pinkham could pin one to the bulletin board in the pack room, too, and any other bulletin boards we know about.
This is AWESOME news! I think the really important thing for people to know now is that even though signups are full, they can still participate, and that even then if they’re not participating, per se, they (and everyone) are still very much welcome at the summit.
