in reply to: Potential Ski Area Locations #49610
It’s seeming like the ski area option (in other words, a hall or facility) would require a lot of up-front commitment on our behalf, especially financial. We could end up with a situation where person “x” isn’t eating therefore doesn’t want to put in an equal share, and possibly ultimately lose money. Or difficulty collecting. Or just having the pleasure of the get-together overshadowed by the finances of it.
At first, I thought it might be our grail; however, I now think it probably doesn’t fit our “distributed” event as well.
in reply to: Hancock Campground Report #49675My kudos to the selectors of the campsites! It was a perfect location, a great setup (those tarps were awesome), and a great weekend.
in reply to: Posting the Event Announcement to Other Forums #49633We need to start a thread on one of the forums with a title like “I want to hike but the peak’s taken already” and direct people to it. That should discuss how just because someone’s signed up doesn’t mean others can’t either join up and meet them or even just be there on their own.
Additionally, those with peaks “taken” can chime in that others are welcome to come along. This can be in the same or individual threads.
in reply to: Posting the Event Announcement to Other Forums #49630Not that it’s a high-traffic web site, but I added the banner to my home page. Let me know if you get any hits with me as the referer.
😀in reply to: Almost halfway! #49651I’d better bring those high-powered binoculars up Garfield!
😀in reply to: Potential Ski Area Locations #49604Not only could we upload on site, but if we had a TV or large monitor there we could have a running slideshow of pictures as they come in. Regrettably, I don’t own such a TV… 🙁
in reply to: Posting the Event Announcement to Other Forums #49627Speaking of which … Stephen, one of these was what I had in mind for the holder to put places. We could just put the one flyer in under the protector, then load up with business cards. Or put a bunch of flyers in and let people take either cards or flyers.
in reply to: Posting the Event Announcement to Other Forums #49623I think one thing that may depend on the site is how “commercial” a posting it sounds like. In other words, should we begin with “For the past several years I’ve participated in a 9/11 Memorial…” or just do a straight-out announcement?
in reply to: Potential Ski Area Locations #49594Awesome – thanks, Greg!
in reply to: 2004 Flags on the 48 Has Arrived! #49585Wonderful job! I guess I beat the announcement by an hour and you must have reset the database then.
I reregistered and all seems well.
in reply to: Resolution #49556I started with the TI99-4/A. Even had the speech synthesizer, the 16K (wow!) expansion kit with floppy drive, and taught myself how to program in TMS9900 assembler. Those were the days, sigh.
in reply to: Meeting Summary #49566Agreed – it was an awesome weekend, not only for Flags planning but as a general get-together! “Fun” weather, an incredible Hancocks hike, and Magic’s touch with the fire – whee!
Now if only I could get the smoke smell out of my tent fly…
in reply to: Meeting Summary #49564I would guess between 50 and 100, based on an optimum of 48 peaks x 1+ hikers per peak.
I think we want food service – everyone will be post-hike hungry. Unless someone knew someone who was a caterer (and of course we’re not asking for free food, we’d all pay) and could set up food and bar in an empty hall for us. But that’s even more complicated to plan than a restaurant.
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49370Glad you made it and that we got to meet you up on South, Mari!
😆in reply to: Privacy Statement #49559You might want to mention that the list as a whole or in part will not be sold or in any way given to a third party, yada-yada,yada.
I would also recommend, if it’s not in there already, that the list of non-anonymous participants on the web site be somehow munged when displayed so that a web scraper can’t grab the email addresses off of it.
Example: no mailto: links, ‘user at address.com’
