Sorry for the confusion, yes, you’re good to go from the hiker lot before the cog, just not from the cog lot itself (which next weekend you probably couldn’t have parked at, anyway)

FYI, this report on Jewell from http://www.newenglandtrailconditions.com/closures/

“Bridge adjacent to Cog tracks closed due to significant damage. Bridges via USFS parking in tact and open.”

Road’s open, and both the Zealand Trail and Twinway have been visited by our West Bond coordinator and are said to be in good shape.

Hardcore route, I like it! I believe you should have no problem getting to your trailhead as long as you take 302 from the west (Twin Mountain / Route 3) side. It should be open all the way to Willey Station Road (aka, the Ethan Pond trailhead).

Zealand Road is open, and I’ve heard that the Zealand Trail and the Twinway up to the ridge are all in good shape post-Irene.

Len! Glad to have you back this year! I should have looked first before my posts; no worries with you at the helm. And not starting at Lincoln Woods. 😉

Report on 19-Mile Brook Trail, 9/2 from the AMC:
2 bridges out, but water low and passable; minor blow downs; erosion especially first mile.

I’ll come up with a final plan and post it over Labor Day weekend.

For anyone interested, this is the flag rig that we’ll be using. It’s been on Isolation, Madison, and Garfield. A variation of it was used on West Bond. The same flag flew all those peaks (and possibly Carter Dome, I don’t remember). Given the number of people on the hike, I’ll probably bring extra parts to raise the flag even higher if the winds are mild.

There’s access into and out of Waterville Valley now, using a detour off 49 around the loop where, I think, the Welch-Dickey trailhead is.

Well, further advances up the trail have been made, and I’m told “I have received word that the Edmands Path sustained serious washout damage near the top that is nearly impassable.”

So please use caution and allow some extra time if you choose to take Edmand’s Path. I’ll keep an eye out for new information.

The AMC posted they expect Zealand Road open on 9/3.

My fingers are crossed that the Kanc will be reopened by 9/11 for you. Keep an eye on http://www.nh.gov/dot/511/

As of today, Zealand Road is closed beyond the Sugarloaf Trailhead. I’m sure they will make quick work of the repairs and have it reopened by 9/11, but keep an eye on:

                                  just in case.
