A recent post-Irene trip report on VFTT indicates your route is good to go.
Due to TS Irene, Tripoli Road is currently closed east of Russell Pond Campground.
Please keep an eye on:
http://www.fs.fed.us/r9/forests/white_mountain/conditions/roads_status.phpand be prepared for an alternate approach. Keep in mind also that the Kanc is currently closed. I have no idea how much of the Kanc will be reopened by 9/11. Keep an eye on:
http://www.nh.gov/dot/511/Keep in mind that Route 302 is currently closed to traffic at the washed-out Sawyer River bridge, just east of Sawyer River Road. You will need to approach on Rte 302 from the west, from the Twin Mountain area.
My understanding is that currently traffic is stopped at the Willey Station Road (Ethan Pond trailhead). Hopefully by 9/11 you’ll be able to drive to Sawyer River Road.
That said, Sawyer River Road is currently closed to traffic. You’ll want to keep an eye on the USFS WMNF website’s forest road conditions; it may be necessary to park at the winter parking lot at the head of the road.

in reply to: Moosilauke #54939We’re glad to have you as a flag-bearer, Randy! Have a terrific time on the Moose. 🙂
in reply to: South Twin #54819Thanks, Rolly. I’m all set with the rigging, it’ll be the same setup I’ve used for quite a few years now. Participating in the car spot sounds great, we’ll try to leave as many cars at the endpoints as possible so that everyone has options. Yup, we’re at Ammo!
in reply to: South Twin #54817Less than a month to go! We’ll start finalizing times and trailheads shortly, but it’s almost certainly going to be in the 7am range up the Gale River Trail with a stop at the hut (it will be open) along the way. We’ll be doing a car spot to come down the North Twin Trail afterward; anyone interested in participating in that, as opposed to doing their own thing back down to the hut and Gale River Trail, should let us know so we can coordinate enough seats for humans and dogs in those cars.
in reply to: South Twin #54815Sounds good, Greg, thanks! Keep an eye out here in mid to late August for finalizing details. Hopefully you can get in some hikes in the meantime, there will be some rocky sections where practiced footing will be helpful, as well as just a lot of hiking with weight on our backs: 12 miles (total) with a bit over 3,000′ of vertical ascent.
in reply to: South Twin #54813Mind? Of course not! It will be a pleasure to have you and Tigger along. 🙂

in reply to: FOT48 2010 North Twin #54647Nice zoom pics, Salty. What’d you shoot those with? Guess I should have been able to see you from the Carrigain tower … but didn’t. 🙁
