in reply to: Why not make it the top 50? #48600
I like the idea of 50 but I recall either here or on other boards that some of us visit; some people wanted to see other countries represented also as many people from many nations died & it was the WTC not USTC.
The day should be more of remembrance of those lost, friends, co-workers, family, people we did not know, etc instead of just a USA Day.
I don’t have exact number of countries where people died but I think it was near 60 countries. Instead of doing next two lower peaks, you could adopt Trailwrights list so all your destination would all be over 4,000 & many people would be able to see each other on all the points on Adams, The Wildcat crew would have neighbors on all the peaks & could walk back & forth to make up for not seeing each other & Guyot would be able to see 2/3 of Bonds + South Twin
While a majority of people were from NY, CT & NJ, 9/11 touched the entire world.
in reply to: The Mission Statement #48556We do need to get the LNT message out there. Since 09/11 I’ve been across Franconia Ridge & to Bear & Round in CT. On 9/29, Flags on Lincoln & Flume. Lincoln may have been removed as many people close by (imagine that on a Saturday with foliage) Flume’s flag had been there a while based on the shape it was in.
Last Friday on Bear, another Flag was left for sometime as it was tattered.
Regardless of nationality or country, as people who enjoy the outdoors, we need to remember to LNT. The Patriotism is great especially when impromptu, I suspect in a mass demonstration as planned here we will be held to the LNT ethic more stringently than the casual non-organized show of patriotism.
Let’s show that we are proud of our way of life, politicaly & as hikers & backpackers.
in reply to: Setting the Date (was: I’ll start) #48493I’ll do my best to keep both 09/11 & 09/14 open. I’ve planned 2004 Vacation Days already so 2002 should be easy. I think I lke the 09/11 date better as it will be less crowded & more of a memorial Vs. a media event.
