in reply to: Mt. Moosilauke #53791
I didn’t get a chance to sign up for a peak, so if you would like a back up, I would be willing to plan on hiking Moosilauke with you and your son, along with my kids. Of course if the weather is that bad, we would all likely make the same decision.
in reply to: Flags on the 46 ? #53302I think it is interesting to see what is being done in other places to memorialize this day.
I agree that the FOT48 should stay as it is, but that being said, there is nothing to stop other groups from taking a great idea and running with it. I know folks from as far away as Alabama who want to do something like this on or around September 11 and they have been watching this web site and others to get ideas of what they can do. Maybe someone who wants to organize a separate organization in NY could come to your planning meeting and get some advice on how to get started.
I don’t think it would detract from this event at all. For me, every time I think about it, I am proud of our American freedom, and am more determined than ever to express that patriotism. I can see why this keeps coming up, it is simply infectious and you can’t help wanting to get involved. It doesn’t matter what state you are from if you are an American and love freedom.
I got this message late last night about Jeff!
SSGT Alford in route to Ft. Bragg!
Surgery will be done state side at Ft. Bragg NC. Still no details on the cause of the wound or wounds however there is hope with high expectations that plates and securing hardware will put him back as good as new.
OOH RAH & God’s Speed,
Keep him in your prayers and I will let you know as I get more details, how he is doing!
Thank you, Magic, for posting the Fallen Heroes link, I have seen it, but I didn’t think to post it. Dimi was a very special young man, and it is wonderful that the people who knew him have a place to tell about him.
And thank you again for letting us have Cabot, we had a wonderful time and I think I have a few new hikers, at least 4 of the group were climbing their first 4000 peak.
I have a journal from Saturday to share with you as well, not alot of entries, but I did want to keep up the tradition. Next year, I will definitely be at the gathering, I was sorry to miss it this year. Business took me out of the country and I just had to get back to make my flight. Maybe I can send it to you if you would like to see it before next year!
I am very proud and humbled to report that we have been asked to fly the flag of Marine Lance Cpl. Dimitrios Gavriel, who was killed in enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Dimmy died on November 19, 2004.
We hope also to carry the flag given in an Eagle Court of Honor to Dan Cole, one of our own crew who served in Fallujah as well.
in reply to: Sign Ups are OPEN #52418Hi Mtnmagic,
Our group is going to be at Broken Branch Saturday night, at least that is the plan for now. We have our planning meeting Monday, so I will know for sure tnen, but I am looking forward to having the kids meet all of you.
I would like to see the journal. and I will be sure to bring one with us to continue the tradition!
in reply to: Sign Ups are OPEN #52415What’s the matter, Rick, can’t you be in two places at once?
Will you be hiking along with us to Cabot or just meeting up with us at the top? I just posted the route and look forward to meeting you. Our group is small in numbers but mighty in spirit!
Marie
in reply to: 2007 signups #52683It is a tough call with regard to the pre-registration of Scout groups. Although I was very pleased to have our group pre-registered, and MtnMagic was happy to hike a different peak this year, if it hadn’t worked out, we would have particpated on some level.
I was suprised to see 5 peaks covered by Scout groups, so it is imaginable that there would be even more interest in coming years, so to continue to allow pre-registration could become an issue.
It is great that you have such good committee and thoughtful discussion about this each year, and can address the issues as they evolve. Whatever you decide, you can be sure that we will want to participate for a long time to come and are more than willing to play by the same rules as everyone else.
