Happy Solstice!
Hope it is not “lights out” at 10 pm. Heck it just starts to get dark at 9, now. Love a great campfire at night. Have lots of firewood to share. Can we break quite hours and stay up past 10 and enjoy?! The campfire, I mean!
I’m bringing my $3 circa 1945 Coleman Model #228-F double mantle lantern. It’ll blind you with its brilliance. It also might prove why Coleman quickly produced the next model — Cuz this one *is* a fire hazard. And I love to share!
Whoo Hoo, can’t wait for the coming weekend!!
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49348In addition to your fine bbq grill and our wood to burn ,I too will bring more than enough wood so we can spend hours brainstorming around the campfire.
Then we can hit the trail to the Hancocks in the morning.
Does it get any better than that?!
in reply to: Where do we go this year? #49518Other than the Beacon which really is no atmosphere for hikers, there just aren’t many places with the capacity to hold 40 or 50 of us in addition to the regular “Saturday night crowd.”
Woodstock Inn and Mooseland Grill are the only large places with a roof I can think of and I live in the Whites. Fresolone’s has lots of outdoor tables and chairs but no room inside in case it rains.
Any ideas you readers have, please pass them along.
in reply to: Flag Upgrades #49540I’m keeping the same flag as it has been raised over most of the summits during the last two years of hiking. Looking into a new flagpole.
in reply to: Assigning Peaks/Accessible Peaks #49470With the Zealand bridge being closed on or about Sept 7 to be rebuilt, I wonder if we can still cross it to get Hale. As MikeP said there’s always the somewhat obscure fire wardens route. Probably only those hikers that have used it will feel comfortable on it. We’ll have to go up the Twins to get to Zealand Mtn.
in reply to: What beer are you bringing? #49535I never over eat.
I never drink beer.Ok maybe a little bit!

2004 – umm!in reply to: Agenda for get-together #49310T, I am in full agreement with your 4 points. Did you mention we can drink beer from our ice coolers and discuss the simple agenda around a campfire. Now that sounds like a great idea.
Oh, Max works nights. He wanted to know if we can drink beer in the morning. I’m drinking water and going hiking!
I received a message that Pedxing might visit during the afternoon. Wouldn’t that be super! We have a lot in common and lots to talk about. Cal and I are saving extra sites for those who are still uncommitted to the weekend. You readers are certainly welcome to join in.

See you great folks then!in reply to: Agenda for get-together #49305Sounds good to me. Especially that you are bringing your grill up. I’m bringing some firewood. Anyone that can should add some wood to the fire. It’ll sure help keep the bugs away.
in reply to: Agenda for get-together #49303I thought we were to discuss all these points on Saturday afternoon. I wonder if we can answer all of the topic listed in a couple of hours on Saturday night. What are your feelings, when should we discuss this?
in reply to: Flyers and handouts? #49449Super idea, Cal! I don’t immediately have ideas for cards or flyers but I sure do agree with your idea to have them to distribute. They certainly would promote the Flags on the 48 event. Any readers have some ideas to contribute?!
Let me think about it for a few days.
in reply to: Member Rankings #49440Super patriotic new avatar Michael.
Ok Jay, I’d like to get in on the free beer. Double Bag by Long Trail, please.

Love Haystack road campsites and the hike to North Twin!
in reply to: Flags on the 48 Web site Overhaul #49413I agree with you both, great ideas, as always!
in reply to: Flags on the 48 Web site Overhaul #49410I really like the photo album theme around the pictures. Looks great!
in reply to: FOT48 Planning Get-together Date II #49326I’ve always done them clockwise. Just the way it happened. Would be willing to do it differently. Hope to see some views for a change.
