in reply to: Planning Meeting Registrations now open! #49382
Will be there early Friday morning to reserve a site or 2 (depending on the results of the poll) for others that are coming up Friday or Saturday. Willing to share the site with others having small tents.
In the poll it should have read that I’m willing to share a site(s).
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49343If I remember correctly, there is a kiosk so that campers can pay for their sites.
There will be a caretaker off and on during each, we can ask her/him if it’s ok to pin a card saying what sites we have. And whether we are at them, or elsewhere.
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49340Wow! We’re getting good on these details!!
If it rains? Needed are Contingency Plans A & B if inclement weather/or by chance the c.g. is full. Just trying to cover every detail.
Go to the Woodstock Station. Meet, discuss our agenda, etc.
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49338The non-binding sign-up is a good idea.
A quick hike Friday afternoon?!
in reply to: Hancock Campground #493368 people and 2 vehicles seem to be their big concern.
I always see those huge 10′ x 16′ family sized tents that car campers use. We are talking 3/4 2-3 person sized tents on the site. The rules don’t say no to several small tents.
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49332I just visited the Hancock Campground website and read that camping there is on a first come, first serve basis. I can arrive early in the morning and pay for a few sites. Also the thought occured to me that I could on the Friday morning and pay for a few sites.
What does everone think?!
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49331There are 56 sites at this location. 8 people per site and 2 vehicles. (Park at the huge Lin-Woods Trailhead 2 parking lots if need be.) Check out time is noon, check in time is 2pm. I believe we can find several sites.
If this site takes them, reservations can be made by calling 1-877-444- 6777. I haven’t called.
in reply to: Hancock Campground #49329Early May — plenty of bugs, brook crossings almost impossible, few campers.
End of June — lots of campers, still plenty of bugs! Smoke from campfire(s) sends the bugs away!Great thread!
For me I’m looking forward to:
Meeting Greg.
Meeting everyone else.
Post Libations and food.
Pre-event gathering.
Meeting folks at the peak and on the trail.
Testing those engineering skills.
Hiking and redlining.

Eating more great food!in reply to: FOT48 Planning Get-together Date II #49322I’ve tried before in May to cross those wild rapids on the North Fork. Pretty much the toughest crossing I’ve ever tried. (I can see the story in the papers now, “Hikers Swept Away by Strong Current”)
Little River — don’t let the name fool you! — up to the Twins, and Lincoln Brook to Owl’s head in the Pemi immediately come to mind as tough crossings during mid May. And of course the Dry River in The Presie Wilderness Range mid-May is taboo. It should have been named, Raging River of Certain Death!
Hope we can do the Hancocks at the end of June when all water levels return to normalicy!
in reply to: FOT48 Planning Get-together Date II #49319Sky, Ghostdog and I would like to climb them.
Maybe it will be clear blue skies at the summit this time.
Love those 5 brook crossings and in general, the hike itself.

Happy Valentine’s Day!in reply to: Agenda for get-together #49292I think two or three or more contingency plans are perfect.
Yes, I think everyone who is sincere should be invited.
Heck, be certain to dodge those meteorites!
And Ghostdog, Sky, and I will get set to be the sargent of arms. Just in case we really need it!
🙂in reply to: FOT48 Planning Get-together Location #49283To add to your choices, there are all the mtns on the Franconia Range and the Kinsmans and Cannon, then the Twins, then Tom Field Willey then . . . 😀
in reply to: FOT48 Planning Get-together Date #49270Yes, great! That’ll give the folks that thought it was locked a chance to vote.

How about a quick newsletter so all will know and can vote!in reply to: FOT48 Planning Get-together Location #49281No Trailheads at the c.g. but Lincoln Woods Trail is across the Road to access the mtns in the Pemi Wilderness. The Osceolas, Hancocks, Tripyramids, Passaconnaway and Whiteface are there.
Pick you favorite!
