A mere 10 days away. God, I just can’t wait! I’ll bet there will be 50 of us brainstorming ideas during the weekend this year. How wonderful! Looking forward to seeing all of you again!! Woo doggie, and we get to hike during the day AND have campfires at night too!!
in reply to: Planning Meeting Attendance #52247Attendees: Ghostdog and me
Arriving: Friday
Leaving: SundayThere’s a group of us going up the North Slide to the Tri’s on Sunday. There’s room for a few more if anyone would like to join us. The more the merrier!
in reply to: 2006 Planning Weekend/Gathering #52004Just two weekends until the big gathering. I’m sure looking forward to talking and meeting everyone. We’ll be there Friday afternoon. Chess, cribbage, canasta, campfires, and hiking. Life is good!
in reply to: 2006 Planning Weekend/Gathering #51996Don’t panic! Go with the flow (the new blood). It’ll work perfectly!
in reply to: Sign Ups 2006 #52173Yes, Vets, Firemen, Cops on tops, Scouts, those new to the site. Let’s fly flags from every country in the future. I am certain I’ve a flag from Scotland being raised. And maybe the UK, too! I would be *honored and delighted* to hike with anyone raising a flag from any country on any mountain. 4k or less! We can do it!!
in reply to: 2006 Post Event Gathering Thoughts #52178Some will undoubtably go to the Inn. Some will return to the campground to gather and eat. Some will go elsewhere. The Good ‘n You restaurant on Rte 3 in Twin is nice and new, has great food, and low prices. A fine combination.
Me, I’m leaning to return to the campground to eat and socialize there.

😀in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52063SilentCal said … I do need something more solid to stand on.
Let’s start with balance, determination, substance, and organization and work our way from there. I could always bring the portable stage with royal blue curtains! 😆
in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52061Up here in the Whites it is “off season” after Labor Day September 4. Everyone should definitely bring their own food, and drink.
in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52057You know I’ll have a good load of hardwood to burn at the planning meeting.
Oh that’s great news Chris. We had two fine nights with a substanial campfire last year. We are golden!
in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52055Either way Magic…you are going down in chess my friend!!
Hehe! Thanks for the great laugh this read gave me. Looking forward to the challange with you once again.
😀I have a huge grill with a side burner, that would be most useful. Wish I had a pick-up truck to load it. Nothing like some good fellowship around a campfire to soothe the soul at night.
in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52053I miss going to the Mooseland after hikes in the area. Driving by the site many times and seeing 2 piles, one pile of metal, another of wood actually reminds me of the attacks on 9.11.01. It is like looking at the skyline of Manhattan and not seeing the Twin Towers. 👿 That’s what flags on the 48 is all about. I’m going to bring several flags in our group of 10 on a new peak this year with renewed vigor.
At the weekend planning/camping/hiking meeting coming May 20 (it’s Armed Forces Day!), the group will decide, among many other topics, where we go Saturday night. One thought is since a lot of us are camping at the Broken Branch KOA Friday night, extend it to include Saturday evening also. We select our own choice of food, drink and our meals prepared when we want it, or slow, or fast. There will be at least 2 grills there, and with a little wood donation, a campfire. Something to think about.
in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52050Stopped at the Good ‘n You restaurant yesterday on Rte 3 in Twin Mtn after Sleeping Bear’s and my return from Mt Jefferson. I liked the name even before I visited. I must say, 150 will be shoulder to shoulder in this new establishment. Great place, very reasonable prices, haven’t tried all the food selections, but from what I saw, it is good enough on a Sunday night that the locals eat and drink there. It sure is nice and new and clean.
Bottom line: Will it work? Honestly, it’s like a shoulder to shoulder party from our youth. Your thoughts and ideas are most welcomed. Please contribute them.Only 7 months left … and counting. My best to all!
in reply to: Mooseland Grill destroyed by fire #52049Here is a link to the story from TV 3 Burlington. It is as though a very old and dear friend has passed.
I’ll look around for another place that has down to earth, reasonable prices and can hold our gathering. What a shame. Darn!
in reply to: 2006 Planning Weekend/Gathering #51984May 20th at the KOA sounds good to me — it’s Armed Forces Day!
Up Falling Waters Trail to Little Haystack, across the Franconia Ridge to Mts Lincoln, then on to Mt Lafayette and down Old Bridle Trail makes a fantastic loop. One of my favorite hikes with spectacular 360* views. It is 8.9 miles with a 3900′ elevation gain. We could gaze at the views for hours!
Of course I’m in on any hike, any where.
