in reply to: How’d We Do? #53945
I think interest was up in ’06 because it was the fifth anniversary. Organizers may have a better read than I do, but I don’t think ’07 was down from ’05. Each year there have been late cancellations that need filling.
in reply to: Read off the Names #53827Will do Cal, thanks!
in reply to: Read off the Names #53825This thread was among a number of factors that inspired me to try to do something different for ’08. I’m thinking of organizing a group of burn survivors to take a peak and bring the names of the firefighters who lost their lives at the World Trade Center. Firefighters are a big part of the reason there are so many burn survivors and they accomplish this by putting themselves in harm’s way. As the recent tragedy in Boston proves, even an apparently routine call can bring extreme danger.
in reply to: T-Shirts???? #53251And Old brains are old brains. I’m getting a little CRS.
BTW: I’m going to this on Sunday – another patriotic type event (I’m representing the Phoenix Society which is being honored).
in reply to: T-Shirts???? #53249Yeah lots of irony… and I’m feeling stupid, too. I remember those shirts – and I had the same experience, none left in my size.
in reply to: T-Shirts???? #53246Hey Magic… we took our soaked selves home and decided to skip KOA. I do look forward to the next hike.
I didn’t see those shirts. I was imagining white with the Flg on the front (maybe with a mountain, too). Is there a pic of the red and black ones somewhere?
in reply to: T-Shirts???? #53244Cotton polo sounds like an interesting alternative. I like that or wicking – either would be more useful than the standard T-Shirt. I’ll report back when my current order is filled (in about 2 – 3 weeks I think), and when I get a price for wicking shirts. I may also ask about cotton polo.
in reply to: Pearl Hikers – Carrigain #53125I wish we’d thought to ask to get a picture of the trio by the flag.
in reply to: Photos Needed: 0! All photos in Gallery! #52991Since UK had trouble, I tried to post the pics he emailed me and had no success either. I’ll await further instructions.
in reply to: Highland Center update??? #50670I agree – maybe a smaller scale, less “official” thing??
We don’t need official sanction to say “a bunch of people from various peaks are going to meet at X”in reply to: Signups for 2005 #49998I see how hard Stephen is working on getting ready for this year’s sign-ups. Thanks! Hats off to Stephen!

:beer:in reply to: Flags on the 48: The Documentary #50924If I remember correctly, Alpinista would be someone to add to the list. You might also scan the journal section of the site to see who has said things that interest you.
I’d also suggest looking at the pictures to see the kinds of flag raising people do… and what flags you want pictured.
It might be useful to have a committment that should there be any revenues beyond expenses, these would go to a worthy cause (not sure what that would be… a keg fund for the next after party?… j/k)
in reply to: Highland Center update??? #50668Chances are I’ll drive out Sunday morning, unless I combine my peak with an overnight backpack trip. Either way, I’d be highly unlikely to attend a Saturday pre-event meal.
The Pizza bar sounds like a fine idea. I don’t know if sald, dessert and soda could be individual options.
I was happier with Woodstock than with Mooseland, but the idea of a dedicated room is a plus.
in reply to: Other Forums #50534Wow, Jiffy Pop – whodda thunkit?
Meeting other burn survivors, and hearing stories from people who have been burned, I’ve become acutely aware of how many things pose danger. I guess anything that deals with a flame is potentially trouble. It won’t stop me from carrying a stove on backpacking trips (although I’ve been going stoveless on solo summer trips since well before the fire.
I did meet someone who was badly burned sleeping about 10 feet from a camp fire after a spark ignited his bag. He lost most of his feet. I don’t want to be grim, but maybe that has relevance to backpackers.
