in reply to: Remembering 9/11 now #49981
I just came home to find this in my email:
“Burn Survivors Throughout The World,
Three years ago today, September 11, 2001, the United States and the world was touched by crazy and uncaring people. We lost many lives and suffered an emotional scar that all of us burn survivors can fully understand. The families and children of the men and women lost in the three airplanes and New York City, need our prayer and support.
I ask all of you reading this email to take a moment of silence and ask God for the guidance needed to help the families and not only the USA but the world to find Ben Laden and stop his people and all other dangerous individuals so the world can be a safer place to live in.”

http://www.burnsurvivorsttw.orgin reply to: Patriots Flags #50079I’d be proud to carry one – but I think a more prominent peak would be more fitting. If no one else gets in touch, I’ll do it.
in reply to: Other flags #50214I agree with Stephen. I don’t know if the target was everything we stand for, but it was definitely the USA. People from many nations were killed, but the USA took the main hit.
This isn’t a pro or anti-war event. We’ve got Bush backers, Kerry backers, Nader backers and people who don’t fall into either of these countries.
You don’t have to approve or dissaprove of any particular domestic or foreign policy to love this country. You don’t have to support the war in Iraq, or even the invasion of Afghanistan to hike and fly the flag.
I’ll be glad to raise a mug with you at Mooseland regardless of which peak you stood on, or where you stand on these issues. :flag:
in reply to: Owl’s Head #50030Very nice that Owl’s Head is covered again.
I assume/hope that the newly missing peaks are just a web glitch.in reply to: Mooseland Grill Tally 2004 #49901David

4in reply to: Remembering 9/11 now #49980Cal, thanks. My wife and two backpacking friends have a greed to join me.
in reply to: Remembering 9/11 now #49978Mtn: It’s done me a world of good knowing that you had more burns than I did, and that you are out there in the mountains often.
The Flags hike continues to be a good motivator for me to get out there and get in shape.
in reply to: Stupid "Reserved" question #49863It’s probably time to make the reserved peaks available to people who want to sign up, or offer them to people who have enquired about them.
in reply to: Vote for the post-event party locale #49776Well, let ’em know we’ll all vote for the Woodstock if they stick with only one coupon for the whole FOT48.
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49670Thanks Ten Peaks. I’m hoping not to need help beyond the people going with me, but it’s great to know I have some back up.
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49668Thanks Smitty, Cal, MJ and Mtn.
Things continue to move a lot faster than predicted and I’m feeling pretty confident about doing Willey – especially if I start early enough to allow for some rest. Right now I’m doing a sequense of 5.5 miles on a bicycle followed by 2.25 miles on foot (around Fresh Pond) and another mile on bicycle. Next step will be to do some loops around the Middlesex Fells.
I’ve got a couple people comitted to going with me, which will be good backup
in reply to: Backup teams #49690Silent Cals second suggestion also appeals to me:
Little Haystack, Mt. Hight, Guyot, Franklin, and Clay while not 4000 footers could be added after everything is filled.
Maybe people can sign up for these peaks and, hopefully, agree to switch to one of the 48 if it should suddenly be uncovered.
Of course, the more people that cover each peak – the more there is built in back up if one person gets sick or is otherwise unable to hike.
in reply to: Where do we go this year? #49522Woodstock Inn works best for me, but since I wasn’t at Mooseland last year I am wondering which of the two worked better for the group.
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49659I’m amazed at how well the sign up is going. Y’all have done an incredible job.

As for the reserved peaks, has anyone inquired or are they still open?
I may end up signing up for a reserved peak if its available later on. At this point, I am hoping to be in shape to reach a peak under my own steam, but don’t want to sign up for one when I’m not sure I’ll make it. It is however real motivation for me to work hard on my rehab. If all the peaks are taken when I make up my mind, I’ll be happy to join someone else – or maybe take up slack if there is a last minute cancellation.
BTW: I think it would help for people to agree to post cancellations, even last minuite ones, so that someone else can take it. Maybe some groups who are doing a peak would be willing to split up in order to pick up slack in the event of cancellation.
in reply to: Posting the Event Announcement to Other Forums #49631I’ve posted a personal note about Fot48 at thebackpacker.com, since I’m one of the regular nuts there.
