in reply to: Peak Coordinators #51367
Are you perhaps looking at the peaks list backwards? You are signed up as the Peak Coordinator on Zealand and Trevor is listed as “other hiker”.
(really trying very hard not to say something sarcastic) :flag:
in reply to: Liberty coordinator #51383Thanks Mike and Ross for picking up the peak. Mike, I met you last year on Monroe I believe. You guys got a gem of a peak.
in reply to: Osceola, East Peak #51279That is the more likely conclusion. I’ve heard the Scar Ridge is a very difficult bushwhack.
in reply to: Osceola, East Peak #51277Amadeus—I do not know of an offical trail that heads directly to East Pond from the Osceola Summit. There is a small herd path that meaders into the woods at the last switchback before the summit. (heading up the Mt. Osceola Trail from Tripoli Road.) MtnMagic and I followed it for about 100 yards or so. We were later informed that this was the old telephone line route to the summit for the firetower. There was much wire strewn about in the woods as I remember. I believe you can bushwhack to East Pond from here but I’m not certain. Check those maps out.
in reply to: Osceola, East Peak #51275Nice to see a tradition building with people saving their flags, poles and rigging from year to year. Don’t worry about the weather. Mother Nature has not let us down yet!
in reply to: Status on Accessable peaks? #51338They won’t go uncovered. My group can split up at the last minute into three groups if need be. We came up with a timeline for the signups at the planning meeting and the accessable peaks were supposed to be opened Thursday. We did have a nibble on Cannon and once Stephen updates the status we will know exactly where we stand. Terry was interested in doing one of the peaks as well so we should not be in too bad of shape.
in reply to: BONDCLIFF The Immaculate #51312Sherpa, Learn from a friend of ours. Jet ahead to Guyot, set up the tents, then go back to Sarah and LenDawg and take her pack. That’s the gentlemanly thing to do.. :flag:
in reply to: Bondcliff suggestions #51325Check the Gallery John for some insights on to pole rigging. I have a unique setup of a long electrical conduit that I use in a sleeve like someone would in a parade. Of course it doubles as the best lightening rod in the Whites that day but I’ll take my chances.
in reply to: THE DOCUMENTARY… #51308I’m in Western Mass if that is close enough for you. I have three weeks of work left before I disappear into the Pemi for a couple days. PM me if you wish.
in reply to: August 11: Camping Out #51129I second the HUGE thank you to Jay annd Terry. Cathie and I had a blast. She wants to hike very badly with Madison now. The Bog Bridge hike was very interesting and food delicious. A pleasant night under the stars and great conversation. What more could you ask. Tent poles perhaps, but everyone had theirs….. 🙄
in reply to: August 11: Camping Out #51116I believe it was bring your own beverages but I would like to know if there is anything we need to bring? Firewood? Food? . Also some idiot proof directions would be good from different directions.
in reply to: August 11: Camping Out #51113Glad your coming Madison! Cathie will be quite pleased. Let’s hope it doesn’t rain!
in reply to: Pierce (Clinton) #51182Keep an eye on the weather if you have many first timers. Just the tip of Pierce is above treeline so if it’s a nice day, they will be able to see the ridgeline all the way to Washington. Great to see this comaderie with helping out the new folks. Enjoy the day!
