Stephen really deserves a couple cold  for his work with the site. He basically took our ideas from the planning notes minutes and made it happen exactly the way we wanted it to be presented. I’m sure it’s not an easy task and he volunteered to do it. Hats off to the man! :flag:
in reply to: Should we have a rain date? #50950Perhaps it would be a good idea to have everyone participating to check the site say at 6:00 p.m. Friday night. We can have a stoplight on the cover page with a Green for GO, a yellow light for use caution and a red one for cancelation. By then we should have a good idea of the weather and if a hurricane is heading up the coast we can keep people out of danger. If it is stormy outside and thunderstorms are threathening, I certainly don’t want to be on the summit with my metal pole. I guess in that circumstance it could be a judgement call.
in reply to: GET-TOGETHER Mini Meeting #50953Count me in! Any excuse is a good excuse!
in reply to: Red Cross Critical Blood Shortage #50939We have a bloodmobile stop by work every other month. Other than the year I had Mono, I’ve given every time. Always a good thing to do. You never know who you just might be able to help out.
Good Reminder Stephen!in reply to: Proposed press release #50891Good Catch Trekman! I wouldn’t want anyone to think we were the terrorists….
in reply to: Sunday, September 11, 2005 #50625Welcome Flyingfree!
Signups will be on July 11th. Please feel free to sign on with any peak. This is a great way to meet other like-minded hikers. Owl’s Head is usually one of the last to go but maybe not this year.
Thanks for your interest and be sure to sign-up for support if you can.in reply to: Flyer design #50929I think it’s very good. Very direct and to the point. no need to Narf, I’m the idiot who can’t figure stuff out. Remember “what’s a MOD?”
in reply to: Flyer design #50927where might the computer idiot find a reader for this?
in reply to: Flags on the 48: The Documentary #50917Welcome Dave,
Barring something unforseen, I should be at Jaytrek’s little gathering. We previously had a large planning meeting several weekends ago in the Whites. The minutes of that meeting are posted on the site and the meeting was quite productive. Jaytrek’s gathering, I believe will be a fine-tuning type of meeting, to just iron out some small details, go over peak assignments, and on-call status for some folks.
Jaytrek mentioned Frodo, Stephen and myself as “must see people”. Thanks for the compliment but this is not true! Every flag-bearer has a different story for taking part. I understand it would be hard to get EVERYONES take on this event but concentrating on us is okay for the event’s history and background but certainly not the event’s soul. There are lots of interesting stories out there and some truly heartful ones that some folks may just not want to share for a film. I would hope that that is respected.
Should you choose to hike with a group, I would suggest a peak with close-by views of other peaks. If the weather is nice, Picking out flags on other summits is easy. A peak in the Franconia Range or Presidentials might be the way to go. I believe the Boy Scout troops will at Osceola Vista Campground this year. They have not gotten back to me yet with a confirmation.
That’s all for now. Time to cut the grass…..
in reply to: Proposed press release #50885We had not offically decreed that folks will be staying at the KOA and having our pre-gathering there. We spoke very highly of the place and the ball is rolling in that direction. I’m heading there tomorrow for an overnight and will chat it up again with the owner. Anyone have a rough estimate as to what I should say as to how many persons might attend as guests. Those who might actually stay at the campground????
Other than that Super work Lisa and Madison! Voluteers make it happen!
:flag:
in reply to: Mini Meeting of Sorts? #50878I would go, What do you know, August 11th is a Thursday. One month after signups start and one month before the event. Not sure whether I could camp out but until I look at work schedules. If it’s a go, count me in.
in reply to: Updated History Page ?? #50856I think it’s very good! We need to keep that photo of the Orginal Flag on Mt. Liberty there too! Frodo, were there any other photo’s of that flag taken that day?
in reply to: Grandfathered Peaks #50873Great to hear everyone’s opinions. This was an afterthought at the meeting and I’m glad that we got thoughtful opinions from both sides. While it is a very minor issue now, after several more years, this could be something that certain folks may consider a worthy topic. Perhaps we should table this issue for this year and bring it up in 2006.
in reply to: Sunday, September 11, 2005 #50620It’s great to have folks that return year after year. I do believe we have started a very patriotic tradition and hope we can keep it going for years to come. I look forward to when my nephews ( 16 months and 5 months) can join me for a Flag raising or two.
in reply to: Sunday, September 11, 2005 #50616Thanks for your support Tycho32! We hope you understand the move for this year and hope you can rejoin us in 2006. We are not sure what mementoes will be availible this year. It’s always kinda of a surprise as no one really knows what’s happens on that front until the event.
