in reply to: Hiking events #50730
Never done the Cannonballs before. Sounds good. Garfield would be nice too. Large open summit area and not too tough a climb.
in reply to: Highland Center update??? #50666Well, this is maybe where I can help out. I am thinking of mailing out a questionaire/ survey/ Thank you for last year/ invite to planning weekend to all of the hike coordinators last year.
In the Survey we could ask the following:
1. Would you be more likely to attend a post or pre gathering?
2. Did you find the sign-up process ideal and what would you recommend we do to change it if nessacary?
3. How much Publicity would you like to see this particular event get?
4. A rough estimate to your group size this year?
5. Would you mind if hikers could sign up and join your party?
6. Any other thoughts or idea to make the event better?
7. Red Sox or Yankees 😆
Many folks only check up on the site around sign up time. Say I get the surveys out by April 1st and ask to have them mailed back by May 15th. I could have all the info compiled together to pour over at the planning meeting. I’d even put in a Self-addressed stamped envelope to make it even easier to send back to me. This way we make an effort to reach everyone and give everyone a chance to have their feedback count. Thoughts? Ideas?
in reply to: Highland Center update??? #50657Something to think about this year. Having the post event gathering on Sunday means many folks have to drive home and go to work the next day. This is just a suggestion but how about a pre-event gathering on saturday night? Then you could just say a time and everyone who could be there, would be there and not straggle in at different times. I would think that with enough advance notice, people might make a weekend of it. Just an idea….it may need some help.
in reply to: Planning Meeting Question (Newbee) #50738Thank you for your interest!!! It might make for a good weekend for the scouts. Last year. on Saturday, we gathered around the campfire around six and just tossed ideas and observations around. Everyone went and did their thing during the day. (hiking, shopping, whatever). There is another thread on the board with folks planning a hike.
I have a feeling that peaks will go fast this year and we are trying to hammer out a contingency plan to get everyone included who wishes to participate. Thanks again and I think it’s great to have the Scouts involved!in reply to: 2005 Registration Start Date #50736This might be something to discuss at the flags meeting. The sign-up process is probaly one of the most discussed topics. What about Flag day June 14th??? That would allow us to implement anything that is decided upon at the meeting. Just a thought.
in reply to: 2005 Planning Weekend: May 21-22 #50679Attendee(s): 1 for now, may add more
Arriving: Friday night
Leaving: Sundayin reply to: Hiking events #50725I may not get there until late Friday night but I’d be willing to hike something on Saturday. I’m open to anything really. What 4000 footers in the area haven’t you bagged yet Stephen?
in reply to: Dusting off the cobwebs #50603I would love to but Cathie just had a hernia operation and I need to be around the house. We’ll have to hook up sometime when she heals up!
in reply to: Planning weekend 2005 #50587If Broken Branch falls through, What about Tripoli Road? Osceola Vista? Thoughts, Ideas, Suggestions?
in reply to: Planning weekend 2005 #50585The weekend of the 21st-22nd sounds great to me. I can bring some more firewood again. I’m guessing we might get about 2 dozen folks this year? Does that sound about right? I will send out invites to all those who sponsored peaks last year. In the invite I’ll include a survey for folks to fill out if they choose not to go. This will give us more input and topics to disscuss around the campfire.
in reply to: Dusting off the cobwebs #50601Good Idea! Looking forward to another successful year! Time to get back into hiking shape! I need to start winter hiking more often. I miss those mountains!
in reply to: Planning weekend 2005 #50580Mothers day weekend is an obvious no-no. So is Memorial day.
That leaves the weekend of May 15th, May 22nd or June 5th. I’d like to have as much of the steering commitee there as we can, and the many folks who participate. As for locations, How about about Broken Branch that Bobandgeri suggested. It’s not far from the highway and as a group rate it’s pretty cheap and near some nifty hiking spots.
Also I don’t mind mailing out a snail mail invite to all who participated last year. Not everyone checks the site regularly and I think it looks more orgainized if we try to at least reach everyone who takes part.
in reply to: Planning weekend 2005 #50573Great to hear some replies! The more the better. It would be nice to make a weekend of it and do some group hiking since for the actual event we rarely hike together. We’ll give some more folks a chance to chime and see what they think. In terms of publicity, that’s a good question to toss around the campfire.
in reply to: New poll: 2005 Flags on the 48 #50560This could be a real quandary amongst all involved. But I do think that need as many votes and opinions as possible. Let this poll run for awhile. I’d rather just see a one-day event done up really well rather than a two day event that might not get full coverage both days. In the hiking community, I believe that we now have enough folks to sustain the momentum we had this year and really help this event in the future. I’ll have more on this subject in a couple days….
in reply to: Old Mans Flag #50564I noticed the flag flying at the Old Man’s site on the morning of 9/11. Did not notice it beforehand but it rained hard on Thursday and I think that Friday was in the clouds. It was gone by Monday I believe.
