in reply to: Mooseland Grill Tally 2004 #49904The eight ball speaks again…..2 From Osceola and 2 from Carrigain. Don’t need the eight ball for the weather. It WILL be a good day! :flag:
in reply to: Signup Confirmation? #50048I sent packets about ten days ago. The veterans of this event did not get one. It’s fairly basic knowledge and I’d be happy to send you it via e-mail if you’d like one. Maybe I should have sent them to everyone. My Bad. I’ll make up for it at the Mooseland. I Promise! I have recieved some feedback back, but it mostly entails the tally for the Mooseland Grill. Would it be intrusive to ask if people that signed up are still attending? I don’t know. The packet does mention our need to know if someone should cancel.
in reply to: Owlshead taken, Galehead open #50066I know someone that may be willing to take a last minute peak too. Stephen what are you going to hike if everything is taken?
in reply to: Mooseland Grill Tally 2004 #49902My magic 8-ball has informed me that the Waumbek crew will be attending and that there will be a crew of 5.
in reply to: Owl’s Head #50027BACK IN BUSINESS AGAIN!!!!!
Three cheers for Nate Snow and the Chester Academy Outing Club!!!!
:flag: :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag: :flag:Welcome and THANK YOU for your interest. Everyone’s summit display is unique. Some persons will search out the true summit and fly a flag from there. Others will find the most convienent spot nearby the summit and fly from there. Whatever you choose to do is entirely your decision. If I remember correctly, the canopy at the top of Galehead is thick. It may be difficult to poke a flag through there or find a tree that is climbable. Some folks use telescoping roof-rakes to fly a flag from and that might work there. Personally, I would bring two flags. A small one to bring to the actual summit and maybe bungie-cord to a tree with the Summit Signs that we have made up. Then I would fly a flag from the lookout using the pole that I normally use. ( 10 foot long electrical Conduit pipe). If you can get it high enough, it would make for a nice picture, should one in your party hike back to Galehead Hut and take a shot from there. Again, it is entirely up to you and your party how you choose to fly the flag

in reply to: Cairn on West Bond #50007Yes, there was quite a group at the tower that day. Congrats on your engagement!!! Good Luck on West Bond!
in reply to: Cairn on West Bond #50004Dang, I did Carrigain last year for Flags. I don’t remember that! Were you the couple that we met on Signal Ridge that lived in Indian Orchard?
You’ll have a great perch on West Bond. Truly one of the five best spots in the Whites.in reply to: Mooseland Grill Tally 2004 #49899South Kinsman informs me they will have 6 hungry hikers.
in reply to: Signups for 2005 #49989We honestly never expected sign-ups to be so busy right away. I figured we would have been at about halfway after two weeks and we almost got all the peaks covered. We’ve created about 25-30 core groups of hikers and hopefully with a successful event we can bump that up into the 40’s. Last year, i said I was going to take a less visited peak but I got another couple to come with us, so for them, I signed up for a nice summit. Maybe a lottery could be a good idea. But with this many groups you will never be able to please everyone, no matter how hard you try. It’s a memorial. Not a game and that’s what we need to remember. The automated system was great but we need to fine-tune it so that when full coverage is attained that a hiker do not experience a lockout and maybe randomly assigns them to a peak. Just an idea.
in reply to: List updated #49987Excellent letter Stephen! It’s a memorial, and that’s the way it should be.
For a final push, I think Greg has the right idea. The VFTT board and even the AMC board would be good places to start. Even the Alpinezone Ski forum to help us take care of Cannon and Wildcat D. (perfect way for skiers to get together to plan a few winter escapades. HINT HINT 😉 ) I say that whoever gets Owls Head gets to pick first next year. Even if folks don’t sign up for a mountain, at least we get the word out to those hiking that weekend might want to swing by the summits to say hello.
in reply to: Permission to fly a flag? #49999I had Cannon two years ago and never thought about asking for anyone’s permission. I can’t see how anyone would have a problem with it once they knew the general idea of the memorial. If we left the flags there, then maybe we’d have to get permission but since it’s LNT I don’t see a problem.
in reply to: Remembering 9/11 now #49979Very moving indeed. I wish you well on Willey. Were you able to get other folks to join you?
