T-shirts would be a great idea. Dispersing them at the Mooseland would be cool as someone would have something tangible to take home. I was thinking of doing something similar and will keep it a secret. 😀 Anyways if it’s done at cost, How about when people sign up for the mooseland we can also have them peg how many shirts they would like. Then they could be paid for at the Grill. does that make sense?
Dry cotton = 😛
Wet cotton = :angry:in reply to: Vote for the post-event party locale #49770Good heads up idea giving them advance warning. We should maybe try to nail down a general number to give them and call them about 10 days ahead of time to confirm with them. MtnMagic is not kidding about the portions size, considering he ate and ate and ate last year…… 🙄
I wonder if they could cordon off that back room area just for our group that day? Perhaps it would be good to nail down a group photo time to include as much people as possible.Clever idea with the duct tape! I had not thought of that. I plan to be spending a night at Lakes on Tuesday the 7th, so I’ll run up Monroe and scout out just what I’ll need. We’ll more than likely have more than one flag flying so we should not be too hard to miss in the Southern Presies! I’ll be hard pressed to see you all the way on Garfield.. :flag:
in reply to: Bridge (de) construction at Zealand. #49816I will be in the general area of Zealand Road on Wednesday Sept. 8th. I’ll make it a point to give you an update if anything has changed. Now are you going to get your Flag to clear the trees on Zealand?
in reply to: Mt. Zealand memorial hike #49810That’s the bridge that I thought. Perhaps they are doing more than one?
in reply to: 100% signups! #49795This would be a great idea. Is there any way of contacting the party doing Washington this year? We still may have a veterans group helping out and it would be a great gesture if we could put some kind of mixed group together.
We may be jumping the gun on the sub-peaks sign in. I thought about this idea some more and maybe it would be better if we shelf the idea until next year. My reasoning is that we need to remember that this event is a Memorial Event. Flags on the 48 should be 48 flag displays from the mountains on the list. Adding sub-peaks, will in the future, take us away from one of our goals to fly on all 48. Hopefully the business cards idea will blossom, and get the word out to hikers all around. Right now we have about 150-175 persons involved in this. We need to let this grow a little before we expand to much. I’m going back on what i said in the first post but we need to remember to true roots of what we are doing. My bad! :flag:
in reply to: Mooseland Grill Tally #48947Good idea Mike; since the polling for where we are going is not complete yet and we should not overlap signups from last year to this year. Okay where’s the lock button
in reply to: Mt. Zealand memorial hike #49808I first heard about the bridge closure from the Alpinezone board and had it confirmed when I went to the Lincoln Woods trailhead and read about it on the bulletin board before the suspension bridge. I believe it will be closing the weekend prior to the Flags event.
I think it stated that the bridge would be closed until December.
An idea that was mentioned was stashing a bike in the woods near the trailhead before the closure. At least then on the way back you can ride downhill all the way back to the highway.
River crossing would depend on how much rain had fallen recently. The bridge is not that large so I would think that the crossing might not be too tough.Views from the Top has a thread on this topic as does the AMC Hiker Journal.
Please let us know if you have any more questions and welcome to the boards!!! :flag:in reply to: Question on Participation #49802Well Done! Your parties may even be able to hike together since the approach trail is not to rough! Enjoy the day and don’t forget the camera!
in reply to: Featured Flag Photo #49763Nice touch!!!!!
in reply to: Where do we go this year? #49528I think we will have quite the crowd this year due to the fact that the signups got such a great response. We should get a rough head count of the persons that are going and get that number to the place we are hoping to go. I’d vote Mooseland because it’s more centrally located and the back room was roomy. If we chose Mooseland they would remember us from last year and staff accordingly. We could just ask if we could hold that back area for us. That way everyone would know that everyone in the room was a Flags participant. Plus the Molson’s were very cold last year!
in reply to: Backup teams #49692We should first focus on the 48 peaks. Once we are sure they are covered, then we can worry about the other point’s to flag. If the reserved peaks go unclaimed we will need groups to take care of them. The Alpinezone skiing forum would be a good place to maybe get some volunteers for Cannon and Wildcat. Sort of a pre-winter get together to plan some skiing trips with others from the board. Plus once we post on other sites, we’ll open this event to so much people. We have a much better jump this year than last year and hopefully we can keep up the momentum. Just some randoms thoughts…..
in reply to: Summit Journal #49700An offshoot of Jaytrek’s post. Summit pictures that are posted on the site. We should remind everyone that their picture might be posted on the website and ask their permission to do so. Honestly, I don’t think this would be a problem but all you need is one bad egg.
in reply to: Summit Journal #49696This is a great idea. Someone had a notebook last and brought it to the Mooseland Grill. While I never did read it, I knew it would be something to do this year. It’s a shame we won’t have the scanner at the Grill. :flag:
