A follow up is a good idea. Who knows if this event really catches on, they might be the ones hunting us down for some free publicity in the coming years….
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49666Pedxing Good luck on your comeback! It’s great to see your name up on the board. Just wondering if any of the reserved peaks have been signed up for. Maybe we should leave them reserved until August and then allow anyone to sign up for them so we can make sure they get taken.
We have the Carrigain, Monroe and Osceola groups staying at one place in Lincoln. We could meet there on Friday night for a last minute meeting.Ditto on MichaelJ’s comment for Dirt Girl on Zealand.
I got another idea. To stress that we would like pictures of the flagged summits, how about a photo contest. Don’t know what we could offer but how about throwing everyone’s name in a hat and whomever wins gets to pick first next year as to which mountain to flag. Just an idea.
in reply to: Hancock Campground Report #49676Next year we should try the Pinkham Notch region. Lots of good hikes we can do there!
in reply to: Potential Ski Area Locations #49612Mooseland Grill sounds more appealing right now. We would certainly have to let them know ahead of time. Due to the amount of people that have signed up, we could be in for a HUGE post-trip gathering. A cool photo could be all the flagbearers gathered together with poles and flags in the parking lot. either way lots of  :flag:  :flag:  :flag:
in reply to: Backup teams #49682How about creating a section that lists those peaks that the primary flagbearer does not mind additions to their hiking party. Make it somewhat similar to the Trips + Events section in Alpinezone and Primary signees can list their peak, the route they are taking, the difficulty level and what not. Hikers that want to assist can answer the thread and be added to the main peak list under the “other hikers” section.
Then again……Little Haystack, Mt. Hight, Guyot, Franklin, and Clay while not 4000 footers could be added after everything is filled.
Just a thought…..in reply to: Almost halfway! #49660This last minute cancelation scenario could be a real pain to deal with. How do we co-ordinate to get that particular peak flagged? Would a friday nite september 10th mini gathering be an idea? Just a thought….
in reply to: Posting the Event Announcement to Other Forums #49644Truly amazing how quickly the list if filling up. There are lots of names that are familiar to the event and several new ones as well. Maybe having the event on September 11th is a real boon to us this year. I still think that we could post around to other sites and hopefully fill out the list that way. Wouldn’t it be fantastic if we got 48 summit pictures of the mountains! VFTT is one of the first places I would post. Nice people over there. AMC is also a good idea but we would have to deal with the flaming that some persons may do. Remember Grizzlymama last year. Im not familiar with the other sites but the more hikers we can get the better this event can be and even if people don’t sign up, they can always hike that day and say a hello to the summits flagbearer.
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49653The scouts are back!!!!!
And they are taking two peaks!!!!Lots of familar names getting onboard. I guess once you do this event and get the feedback from fellow hikers, your just hooked!
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49652Maybe we could incorperate my suggestions for Owl’s Head from the meeting. We could have the Hooters girls circling the Pemi in a hanglider with a flag attached to the tail. But the idea of sending the girls to that summit with helium canisters scares me…… :flag:
in reply to: 2004 Flags on the 48 Has Arrived! #49587You guys did a stupendous job! Too bad you guys are not in charge of the weather that day. :flag:
in reply to: Potential Ski Area Locations #49600Sounds great! No need to worry too much about entertainment. There will be plenty of story swapping and checking out each other’s digital camera pics.
in reply to: Meeting Summary #49570Sorry about the outhouse smell, It was nowhere near that bad when Magic and I got there on Friday morning
in reply to: Meeting Summary #49565The estimate of 50 to 100 sounds good. People at the Mooseland tended to drift in at different times and some stayed and chatted for awhile while others had a ways to drive home and left early. The group photo shows nearly 30 people but I can think of several people that were not included that showed up. I thought the Mooseland was not that bad as it had a bar that people could sit at and tables for those who wanted to eat. If we were to all link up there again we would certainly have to give them advance notice of the throng they may have this year.
Overall I think we covered quite a bit. We have some new blood injected this year and our goal of full coverage looks so much more promising! It was a pleasure camping and hiking with MtnMagic, Ghostdog, Greg, Stephen, MichealJ, Pepsi,Tim and Vicki, Tagalong and Sonicboom. Also swinging by were Little Bear, MilesMountain, and Escendo.
in reply to: Confirmation E-mail issues #49572In a word  thank god you guys know what your doing!
