in reply to: Non 4,000′ peaks? #54582
I am responsible for Mt. Clay. Orginally, with the Road Closures due to Hurricane Irene, the Hancocks were not going to be done because the Kanc was closed. I moved the North Hancock group to Mt. Clay because I figured “Why tell a group ready to flag a peak that they now can not go anywhere”. So I gave them a choice and they took Clay. When the Kanc surprisingly opened the day before the event, the group split up and covered BOTH peaks. Awesome job.
in reply to: Union Leader Article 9/12 #55087Very nice to see a reporter actually get a first hand grasp of what is being done. Too bad the copter never made it out in that area.
in reply to: Helicopter photos #55095From our vantage point on Cannon, We saw the copter over South Kinsman. Then it buzzed around North Kinsman and then vectored around us twice. It then headed on a beeline to Mt. Liberty and Mt Flume. It ducked behind the Franconia Range and a couple minutes later we saw it by Mt. Garfield.
It was a complete surprise and a most pleasant one at that!

Willeyin reply to: The first FOT48 #54413Had the pleasure today to meet Gail atop Cannon. I thanked her for being a part of that founding group.
in reply to: Isolation Cancellation #54986Isolation will have coverage this year. Many thanks to Thomas Gregston and his group for stepping up! :flag:
in reply to: Middle Carter #54861Just a heads up. I think the Northern Imp trailhead is closed due to Hurricane Irene damage. The Southern trailhead is indeed open. You guys may want to carpool to the trailhead too from somewhere as I am not sure how much shoulder there is along the highway in that area due to road damage.
As of Wednesday, the Kanc is only open to the Discovery Trailhead from Lincoln. I drove it myself today.
I was not given a timeframe but by the amount of dumptrucks I passed, it might be awhile before things open up.
If you guys want to move to Mt. Clay, the option is there.
