Same here. 😀
I would be game for such an event, but something a little closer to home would be much better for me. I know the goal is to keep it in the Whites, but Mt. Monadnock is a much more do-able trip for me, it has a nice campground at the bottom, and I think they have shower facilities though I’m not certain. Great place to take a dayhike too.
Just my $0.02

I’m for keeping it simple, hell we could simplify it to just posting this as an event in the “events” area of Darren or Greg’s site.
I tend to agree here. If we’re not careful, this has the potential to turn into a micro-managed, over coordinated event that might turn people away. I had this feeling when Stephen came out with the organization chart in a previous thread. While it is nice to have every peak covered, I don’t want this to feel like another day at work.
That being said, I would like to commend Stephen, Cal, MichaelJ, Greg, and Mt.Magic (sorry if I missed anyone else) for all of their efforts this year. Since it was so successful, I think we should serve up more of the same. Maybe a few tweaks to the sign-up process, but keep everything simple for next year: One day event on Sunday. I think we have enough of a following to get every peak covered.

in reply to: How much did you spend? #50412Max and I (actually Max paid – Thanks Dad!) spent about $20-$25 on two steak and cheese subs, drinks, and a potato skins plate. The food was great, and the price reasonable.
Sorry to hear about your 2 beers SilentCal. I think I saw them in the parking lot talking about going to a different bar. They muttered something about waiting a long time to be served to a guy in a Yankee Hater shirt! 😉

in reply to: Feedback FOT48 – 2004 #50322Max and I flew down from Madison (a hair over 2 hours from the summit) so as to be one of the first at the Mooseland. We were both starving and wanted a hearty meal before the 3 hour drive home. We shared a nice dinner with Dave Metsky who we just happened to meet while leaving Appalachia. The crowd started pouring in just as we finished our awesome steak and cheese sandwiches. It was at this point I noticed the Mooseland staff going into damage control when the waitress told MichaelJ to wait at the bar to place his order for food and drink.
in reply to: Flag Upgrades #49544I sent in for two flags flown over the U.S. capitol sometime in early July. One was dedicated to the victims of 9/11, the other dedicated to my 2 year old son and flown on his b-day. My wife called me at work and told me they arrived today. Hooray beer! – I mean Hooray flags! :flag:
I was sweating it, figuring they’d arrive 9/13 or something foolish like that. 😀
Hopefully I can convince Max to fly the new one instead of his trusty banner from the last 2 years. If not, we’ll just fly :flag: :flag:
in reply to: Day Hiking or Base Camping/Backpacking? (2004) #50035Max and I (the Madison Crew) will be dayhiking.
in reply to: How long do your pictures take…. #49946I chose Monday morning because the computer at home is slow as death.
However, if Max uploads them I would say sometime Sunday. Lucky duck just got himself some cable broadband…
I can’t wait for this trip!

in reply to: Vote for the post-event party locale #49764Either is good with me. I just want a place to sit, grab a bite to eat, and chat about the day. I can’t wait to meet everyone.
in reply to: Summit Signs #49709Looks excellent. Good font size, easy to read, and eye catching. Any plans to add the “flags” site logo to the top or bottom header?
Now, to be picky: The date on the Liberty photo and the date in the caption don’t jive. An erroneous date in the camera, or was it really climbed that Friday?
in reply to: Almost halfway! #49662Look who took Willey! Way to go!

It is however real motivation for me to work hard on my rehab.
I guess so, choosing Willey as your peak. How is it coming in from the A-Z side? I only remember the hard slog up from Ethan Pond with a full pack.
Either way I hope you feel well enough to give it a go. We’re all pulling for you.
in reply to: Potential Ski Area Locations #49611I agree with Michael. The “impromtu” nature of the after-party has a certain, unrehearsed charm about it that you don’t get with function rooms and catering.
Now the highland center might be an option if they donate the room toward our cause and gives us a cut rate on the food…. (-Pinch-) Yep, I was dreaming. I forgot which organization I was talking about. 😉
