Tom Rankin, Laurie Rankin, John Messinger, Yanny Hecht, and possibly Tim Lucia will be doing Cabot via Unknown Pond. (This route will also be covering The Bulge and The Horn). We will start around 8:00
If this was not clear, we’re starting at the Hatchery, doing Cabot, and then optionally doing the Bulge and The Horn. Then back to the Hatchery.

What are you looking for?
It would be better if the sign up tool informed you that you were not the leader, and asked you if you wanted to try again.

honestly , with other peaks that I know were covered, it was more like Flags on the 56. Anything over 48 is a bonus as far as I am concerned.
Flags on the 67?
100?
115?

I am responsible for Mt. Clay. Orginally, with the Road Closures due to Hurricane Irene, the Hancocks were not going to be done because the Kanc was closed. I moved the North Hancock group to Mt. Clay because I figured “Why tell a group ready to flag a peak that they now can not go anywhere”. So I gave them a choice and they took Clay. When the Kanc surprisingly opened the day before the event, the group split up and covered BOTH peaks. Awesome job.
Flags on the 49! 😀
in reply to: FOT48: West Bond #55082As always a moving, and exciting event.
Nice to meet everyone up there, and great to see old friends as well. :flag:

I’ve changed the password to the database (to something extremely complicated) in case the spamming is coming from a bot that figured out our old password. Let’s hope that solves the issue, at least temporarily.
I run a PHPBB board as well, and I had to turn off registration completely. I would suggest you at least make it so the moderator has to approve people, and just delete all the ids that look like 35ki68dfl. I doubt you will nuke anyone legit.

P.S. Big Kudos out to Kyle for stepping up!!!!!!!!
Did you guys ever get any views? I saw your flag for about 5 seconds! 😀

Thanks, Tom! The Flag was hung proudly at the “New” summit. There were many visitors besides our 6-person crew, too – must have been a record amount of people on Owl’s Head at the same time! We even met 3 gentlemen who lost their brothers on 9/11. They had been hiking a peak every September 11th for the last 5 years, but had no idea about the Fot48 event! It was an emotional surprise for them. Great day, and we could see the flags on Liberty, Lincoln, and Lafayette from the top of the slide! I’ll up some photos tonight when I get off of work. Thanks everyone for a great day!

We looked for your flag, but could not see it.
in reply to: post hike gathering #54782in reply to: 2011 Ten years of Flags #54776I remember a few years we had some nasty weather come in on us. A woman I know (Carol White) is writing a book about harrowing experiences in the Whites. If you know of any, please let me know, and I will put you in touch with her.

but I also believe that it also honors the men and woman around the world who are serving and protecting our country. These service men and women provide us with the freedom to carry a flag and a pole to the summit of a mountain and raise it high so that every one can see that we are still proud, free, united, and strong.
Good point! We met an Iraqi vet on N. Twin a few years ago, that was a special moment!

They made darn sure, in all their usages of FOT48 and this photo, that they stated /their/ flag was at half mast per order of the governor.
Should all the flags on the 48 have been flown at half mast? Who would have known?
Tim
We’ve never done that before. We are not agents of the state, just citizens who remember.
