I personally like the black ribbon idea.

We have used conduit, 20 feet for 6 years now, good and not too big in wind. Guy ropes are a key ingredient. I would hoist section by section against a tree trunk for stabilization. I see no reason the 10 feet more could not be added all working from the ground more or less. Conduit sizes are 1-1/4 and 1″, could add 1-1/2 at the bottom, all attach with screwed couplings (3 sections per 12′).

Panchito – Did you get the photos of our flagpole made from conduit? I sent them in a message some time ago.

In my humble opinion, that campground was only convenient for a few of the peaks, otherwise a long haul to the trailhead.

You may want to consider electrical conduit. We have been using a pole of 1-1/4 and 1″ conduit with couplings to hold together. I think it may be more available (i.e. giveaway from somewhere) than PVC, which by the way is not cheap nor is it light weight. Ours is cut into 3-foot lengths (aka scraps) and 20-feet total is 18 pounds. I can send you some pics if you’d like to see. You could also check some of the pics using the links in my signature. Also parachute cord from EMS is our guy rope of choice. Always sturdy with the 6×10 flag of ours.

Dirt (my son) was hiking up Jefferson in 2003 and just happened to run into Frodo and his posse, perfect timing so to speak. We talked about it and then as it happened Wildcat D came up about 3 weeks before the 2004 hike. I asked if he thought we could put it together and we did! Ever since!

Why are there photos of North Tripyramid, Lincoln and Garfield on separate pages and not in the Gallery under the peak name? Seems confusing. Can they be moved to their proper place?

                      🙄

Special congrats to Chris (Dirt), Eileen and Suzanne for accomplishing their 48th peak on the 4000-footers list. Thanks to Eileen and Suzanne for joining our croo, hope you enjoyed the banter and good time at the top. We enjoyed having you along.

You will like Moriah … we did it a couple years back, nice peak to hang out on, plenty of room. I believe we did the very same route but the other way around.

Funny, Dirt and I picked this one up on our first year, just about the same time. Three weeks to get a pole and flag together was not as bad as it sounds. Wildcat-D is a great hike and a super peak for visitors … someone will scoop it up for sure!

Strangely enough, PVC pipe is NOT light weight. We have used electrical conduit since 2004 now, 1-1/4 for the bottom half and 1-inch for the top half. 10-foot sections cut in three for packing. It has worked out really well I think. Check some of the photos on the peaks linked on my signature. We have used electrical couplings with the 4 screws, not the shorties. Of course plenty of parachute cord for guys, lived through the windy Flume year (when we high-tailed it out 20 minutes early to avoid the lightning rod syndrome).
I would look at the “above treeline” as a challenge too, maybe some year.

btw … 18 pounds total pole weight, 20 feet high.
