in reply to: Officially "Unofficial" Post Trip Libations #51360
Sorry MtnMagic, but Mooseland was a great disappointment once again. Team Moriah arrived at 7:00 and the bartender told me that it would be a while as she was all alone (didn’t someone note that Dawn would have extra staff on hand?). It took until 7:20 to just get beers, so we opted to hit the road as we had a long drive back to CT. Stopped in Bethlehem and had a pasta dinner. Maybe those of you who had arrived earlier were all set at tables and such, but we were not encouraged to stay long. Good to see a few familiar faces though.
🙁in reply to: Washington (At Last!) #51622Be sure to point toward Moriah – hoping that the bigger 6×10 flag will show from the Presis.
:flag:in reply to: Officially "Unofficial" Post Trip Libations #51356Two of us from Team Moriah are headed home Sunday, so we will maybe think of Mooseland instead of Red Parka Pub in Glen. There was not a lot of interest in Red Parka when I first suggested it.
:beer:in reply to: Middle Carter Peak Coordinator #51381I will be watching for you from the north. I will have a 6×10 on a 20-foot pole.
:flag:in reply to: Carter Dome #51585I am not totally familiar with the Carter Moriah range, but I suspect we might see each other Sunday. I will have a 6×10 flag on Moriah on a 20-foot pole.
:flag:in reply to: Dress warmly this weekend! #51649I think a windbreaker/rain jacket is best. It covers two possibilities and is probably less than a pound of weight to add. Good insurance.
in reply to: KOA Broken Branch Sat 9/10 #51437If hiking Team Moriah member Fiddlehead is agreeable, maybe we will bring some grilling stuff to KOA if there is to be a grill available (our car will already be loaded). We are camping at Dolly Copp and will set-up in the afternoon, then drive down to KOA (ouch, the gas!). In just three weeks, Fiddlehead and I will be married, so I think I can talk her into my plan! 😆 😉

…is still a go. I’ve been wrapping up another short film and now my attention has been turned, 100%, to Flags on the 48.
Is anyone around this week for interviews? I’m signing up camera crews now for 9/11, but would like to get pre-interviews this week and next.
Anyone around? I’ll come to you!

I just looked over my 2004 photos of Wildcat-D and find that I have a short film clip (.avi) taken with my digital camera. It’s a pan on the observation tower showing the flag waving well in the breeze. It’s about 6MB – are you interested in it?
:flag:in reply to: KOA Broken Branch Sat 9/10 #51432In that it looks like no real get together for after the event, a couple of Team Moriah may well stop by Saturday for a short visit. Camping at Dolly Copp about 1 hour away and need to snore early to hit the trail early. But it will be good to see a few FOT48’ers that evening.

Not sure my flag is as big as I would have liked it to be. 😕
Only 6 feet by 3 feet. Going to try and find a bigger one before then. 😥
I tried ordering some online but it would not have arrived until AFTER 9/11.SJ
Sherp – We had a 5×8 last year at Wildcat-D, and after looking through binocs toward the Presis etc, decided to get a 6×10 for this year, Been sitting in my living room for a month now. Watch Moriah if you want to see it Sunday.

Incidentally, Periwinkle called the KOA today to arrange a cabin (her husband had surgery and can’t sleep on the ground) and the person she talked to had no idea we were coming. I told Peri that Jay had spoken to Darlene and that we should be expected. She has to call back tomorrow and will make sure all is set and that it was just a false alarm.
Sounds like last year MichaelJ at Mooseland. Dirt and I arrived at about 4:00 as first ones and told the waitress about the 50+ that were coming. She looked at me like I was on dope! When you expect that fellow employees talk about plans like these, you need to assume *NOTHING*. 😕
Thanks MichaelJ for the poster. I printed it here on a good printer (at work) and it looks great. Hope to see some of you this weekend.
:flag:My son and I did Wildcat-D last year and had a blast. There is a lot of foot traffic there especially on a nice day. As MichaelJ says though, better bring all your own goodies as there is nothing open there at the top.
It is easy for the flag rigging though too – tie off to the corner of the observation deck and maybe 2 guy ropes. Check our pics from last year. I will look for you from Moriah this year – I’ll be the one next to the new 6×10 flag.
